"I am an up and coming model."
Why do one in five model profiles on this site have that sentence in the bio? If you say that about yourself, it doesn't mean anything! If an expert says you're "up and coming," that's great, but if you say it yourself you just look vain and delusional. Dec 15 06 03:34 pm Link 90% of this sites content is vain and delusional. No offense intended. Dec 15 06 03:38 pm Link But............ aw. Ok. Dec 15 06 03:39 pm Link agreed. and the worst is when all of the pics in their port were taken by a webcam or where they're standing in a mirror with a digital point and shoot. ugh. Dec 15 06 03:39 pm Link The phrase "up and coming" makes my stomach turn. That goes for models or anyone else creatively involved in making photos... Dec 15 06 03:40 pm Link There are people on this site that call themselves 'Super Models'. Yeah..with your 3 TFCDs... Dec 15 06 03:41 pm Link Monica Jay wrote: lol Dec 15 06 03:42 pm Link I have 'aspiring' in my bio. Doesn't 'up and coming' usually describe an individual who is quickly making a name for him/herself in the industry? Hhmmp. Probably not the best thing to say unless you have the proof to back it up. Dec 15 06 03:42 pm Link Searcher wrote: On the other hand, if you don't believe you're an up and comer, you never will be. People aren't going to drag you towards success against your will... Dec 15 06 03:44 pm Link 95% of the models on here aren't working models at all. so if they don't say they are up and coming, well....it doesn't leave them with much to say. the same goes for most of the photographers, mua's, and stylists too. i suppose we all start somewhere... Dec 15 06 03:46 pm Link Searcher wrote: I am vain and delusional. *HeHe* Dec 15 06 03:48 pm Link It's essential to have a goal - and a plan to achieve that goal - in any business endeavor. Repeatedly, I'll ask models "what would you like to add to your portfolio?" Repeatedly I'll get vague unspecific answers like 'edgy' and 'unique' images. (It reminds me of the saying "If you don't have a destination, any road will do.") Believe in yourself as a model, and also know what you want to achieve as well. Knowing what images will help you achieve your style is helpful in reaching your goal. There are still a lot of delusional people running around here barking at each other though. I wouldn't personally use the term up and coming unless it was in reference to a raging erection. Dec 15 06 04:09 pm Link Dude, whatever. If you're working at it, and you haven't "made it", then you're up-and-coming. It's an overused, cliche and cheesy phrase, but big deal. On the MM forums, it's always, "90-odd% of the models here aren't real models", in the San Francisco market, people say, "She's never going to get anywhere with a boutique agency," or "She'd never make it in New York." In New York it's, "She'll never walk for a couture designer," ad nauseum. This is a free networking site for anyone. Of course there are "models" on here that are 5'2" or whatever and live in Bofunk, USA. Until someone figures out a way to entice people into a super-special secret exclusive internet fashion industry club, there's going to be every mo-fo who has a camera phone in on the fun. So. 5'2" camera phone girl is up-and-coming as much as the girl who just got her first agency contract is up-and-coming. The only models that are not up-and-coming are those who are fashion household names. The retardedness of the phrase has nothing to do with it's applicable accuracy. Done. Dec 15 06 04:19 pm Link BGPhoto wrote: agreed Dec 15 06 04:19 pm Link Isn't up and coming the actors job in a porn movie? Dec 15 06 04:25 pm Link S'okay. While it may not speak volumes to agency scouts (and we know MM is swimming with them) it says something entirely different to porn producers and GWC's alike.. Dec 15 06 04:26 pm Link Why use mundane terms? Why not say your star is still ascending or your about to go above the radar? There are so many better ways to say that your goal hasn't yet been reached than to use "up and coming". Dec 15 06 04:55 pm Link K. Holden wrote: That was very well stated, and you're right. Dec 15 06 05:36 pm Link Thats really about as bad as the photographers that think they're the best thing since lord knows what with their sony Point and shoot cameras... I don't really care who you are, so long as you're honest about your abilities.
