898 years? So was he a serial killer or something? I'll understand if you don't want to discuss it.

You'd have thought the judge could have rounded it up to 1000 years. Or 500 with good behaviour..

In the 20 years I've been modeling I've been "ruined" several times.
I've had lies spread about me.
I've had people email artists I've worked with, telling them I do hardcore porn.
I've had models tell others my "real age".
Back when we used to list all our collaborations, others would go through that list and lie about references.
I've had my business cards and fliers stolen at networking events.
I let a photographer "arrange bookings" then completely disappear the day all that was going on.

Yet here I am, still modeling, shooting & creating art.

It's even more amazing when you outlast the people who "ruined" you. Funny how all those people are no longer active. Tend to weed themselves out after a few years.

this one time I had a photographer tell me that he would ruin me and that when he was done I would never get any job, not just photography related, in the sate of FL. By that point I could not help but laugh at him and that made him even more upset. I told him he is welcome to try. Nothing ever happened. In my case, you can't ruin someone that is not known....

Now I live in NC, not because of him, after 21 years in FL it was time for a change.

I don't think photographers should try to ruin models, I think it's bad.

When people do this, it's always for personal or social reasons, rather than professional ones. This type of behaviour does not benefit the model photography scene in any way.

Quite an egotistical thing to say - but surely nothing further than that; everyone shows their true intentions when you tell them NO. This isn't exclusive to photographers vs. models - I don't know how many times I've been cursed out, called racial names, etc. just for declining the typical "hey I'm coming to your area and want you to pay me shoot" messages that we get bombarded with. This is why I've moved on from not only this site but also stepped back from working with models in general. This all has gotten too messy and finding professionals who just want to create isn't as it used to be.

Messages like that can usually be ignored. The fact that they're in the same area as you does not necesarily mean they have the qualities you're looking for.

Yes, this is how sentencing works: a judge can round up or down.

Edit: how much good behavior equals a 500 year reduction?

I don't mind discussing it, but for me there's not much to discuss.

I think Dean Kelly (aka dashphoto) deserved much more than the 10 year sentence that recently completed, he was as bad as Gemase Simmons.  Dean got many, many, many breaks.  Enough for me to think that a certain judge may have received a substantial gratuity from Dean Kelly's family

A paedophile and con artist, not a good combination. This reminds me of Jack Ruby for some reason.

I've had models tell me of a bad experience, but for some strange reason wouldn't supply a name.

Perhaps she won't give you the name because you are one of "them" and might tip him off.  Doesn't mean that she wouldn't give the name to other models.

Without knowing the individuals or the actual details, I suspect such a threat is more bluster than a threat that can be backed up. The professionals with the clout and power to “ruin” or “blacklist” a model also tend to be very successful professionals who can afford to pay a model and are used to paying their models no different than as a professional they expect to be paid as well. Also a professional with the network of contacts needed to be able to “ruin” a model will inevitably have a large network of model contacts. So one model not being interested in a nude shoot is no big deal as they have an extensive list of other models and presumably as a successful professional have many models would would want to work with them.

Just by the photographer making such a threat, I would laugh at him as a small impotent man who has no real power other than empty bluster.

Yes I usually ignore them if their look isn't what I am looking for or if I don't have any current projects. But if I feel that I can add to their portfolio or whatnot I attempt a 'reversal' and that's usually goes left ;D

Just more foolish nonsense from the guy, trying to threaten the model. Those kind of people need to be ignored.
