If you grew up a multi-media kid like me, you may have seen a lot of films that have had imagery that has followed you into your work (if even in spirit).

I'm just curious who else out there has been influenced by the silver screen. These are NOT really my top ten favorite films, but certainly films that have influenced my work one way or another.

Here are mine in no particular order:

Kiss Me Quick
Good Morning...And Goodbye
Suspiria
The Monkey's Uncle
Videodrome
Mad Monster Party
Logan's Run
Phantom Of The Paradise

Russ Meyer's "Up!"
Flash Gordon
(yes, the one from the 70's)

Now how about you?

The Godfather - parts I, II & III.

Heavily influenced me on what NOT to do big_smile

Right off the top of my head, only four pop into my brain, but really not more than that (in terms of affecting my photography, not in terms of movies I enjoy or think are brilliant).

La Dolce Vita (well, and to a much lesser extent, 8 1/2)
Stealing Beauty
Before Sunrise
Lost in Translation

EDIT: Y Tu Mama Tambien... and pretty much anything by Alfonso Cuaron

It's in my collection, that movie isn't that much older than I am. I love it, (and Verushka's never been hotter... hell, NOBODY'S ever been hotter), but it doesn't affect my work much.

For me Black Hawk Down was a turning point in regards to how I approached lighting. The lighting in that movie is amazing - dramatic oranges and greens that seem natural in context.

indeed!  and i think we have some friends in common as well, the f11 gang.  yes, it seems we both have a blend of film and stills reflected in both of our bodies of work, love yours by the way, your work that is!  saverio

I doubt I could name 10, but here we go:

Blade Runner (lighting, mood, and industrial feel; I don't think it shows up in my work)

Seven (that movie was shot beautifully, very haunting)

Stealing Beauty (seems to be a fave here; I know the natural settings show up in my stuff alot)

Braveheart (classy, emotional. Lots of greenery)

Sirens (similar to Stealing Beauty; if I need to explain further, you just haven't seen it)

Boxing Helena (the shots are crisp, sexy, and sophisticated)

Can models play this game too?

Not necessarily my favorite films, but the ones that have influenced my work the most are:

The Big Sleep
Juiliette of the Spirits
Blade Runner
Irma la Douce
Pandora's Box
Saint Joan
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg
The Night of the Iguana
Rear Window
Some Like it Hot

When I'm stumped for an expression or pose, I often think of the women in these movies and try to emulate them.

Hey, you do look a lot like Keira Knightley (although you aren't cadavarously skinny and your face isn't frozen into a permanent "I just tasted something yucky" expression).

There are many of them that have inspired me...little by little....same as music, paintings etc.

I had Raging bull in the back my mind when I was shooting these for example:
