I posted a casting a week ago, and have only gotten one response asking the silly question "Is this shoot exclusively for Asian models?" Looking at the Title of the casting you can see why this was silly.
https://www.modelmayhem.com/casting/2625999 I've made direct inquiries via emails (per models' profile requests) and MM messaging and nothing! Not even, I'm out of town, I have leprosy now, nada. There's no nudity implied or otherwise for this shoot. Just show up, get made up, get on set for 1-2 hrs and get freakin paid! I don't do a lot of fashion or modeling shoots and dealing w/this process is part of the reason. I know a lot of models here in BKK on FB, so I have had much better luck there with getting comps w/rates to send to the client. Has anyone else had this experience? I've used MM for years for searches (with mixed results) and this is a first time for crickets. Oct 28 19 01:07 am Link Eric Nelson wrote: You probably got responses because its a paid gig. If it was a tfp it would be zero. There was a time when having a great portfolio attracted models for tfp shoots. Not even the best port would do that. The reasons are membership numbers are down to a mere 1/3 of what they were. Not enough people looking around these days. FB whether people like it or not is the platform to get models and organize group shoots. Even local agencies use it. Oct 28 19 08:26 am Link Thanks @angel house.
That's interesting to hear about the membership here. Even FB isn't that great. Dealing with agencies here makes this kind of shoot impossible so FB or other venues are needed. Agencies need usage info etc etc then of course add in their percentage to the overall fee. I spoke to one agency and this is what I was told when they had the shoot description. "We only provide models for advertising, campaigns, commercial, fashion show etc or if its personal use, we only do production showreel or photographer portfolio but not for a person picture." You can apply your own insults and curses here as they are probably similar to my own!
The one thing I've noticed on MM for BKK models is there are a LOT more nude models. Some years back there were few to none. Not a bad thing per se, but most of these models couldn't be used for everyday kinds of shoots. Oct 30 19 11:50 am Link It may be your presentation. It is a paid shoot but you are asking them for an hourly rate. The 1 may be confusing them. Perhaps they stop reading there, thinking you mean 1. You could put in a budgetary figure that is more enticing.
You are asking the models to show up at 8, for stylizing, work one or two hours. What are you paying for? Maybe 1 hour of shooting? Maybe you will be done at 9:05 and you will pay for a tenth of an hour. The stylizing time is on them? You aren't guaranteeing them two hours of pay. Or 3? Of course you can't budget because you don't know their rate. They not only have to be stylized for an hour, they have to put time into getting samples of THEIR super elegant clothes to show you. What do you mean when you ask for samples? They lay it on the bed, or they put it on? Then they photograph it, send to you, and maybe get the job, after they spent how much time doing that. Their super elegant clothes and accessories may or may not be anything like what you are looking for and they don't know because you are vague. You are also assuming they have these super elegant apparel pieces. I would think that would be relative to their disposable income. I know you are doing these very pretty girls a favor by eating up their Friday evening. But maybe they don't see it that way. Oct 30 19 02:11 pm Link That very well could be and I see your point, but then again one should know what they want to charge. I can break down my day rate to an hourly one with a minimum time. One needs very little business sense (just like me ) to look at the very specific times and the process involved and say I want X for that. "I'm going to be there for X amount of time so I want X amount plus X if we go over that amount of time."
The model that was chosen put it exactly that way. "I'll do the shoot for x, plus x per hr if we go past 10PM" Very business-like and to the point. She gave herself a rate and applied it to the situation. She probably knows models get X% deducted from the agencies so hopefully she bumped the price up so she got a better rate for herself. In any case we did finally find someone! She's listed here on MM but she had contacted me thru FB w/basically the same post.
The stylist for this shoot stated that FB works much better than MM. I was sorry to hear that it's gone that way. Hunter GWPB wrote: Oct 31 19 12:20 am Link |
