There is a big difference between a model and a subject.

Models know how to pose
Subjects have to be told everything

Models know the angles that work for them and their features
Subjects know what looks good on everyone else

Models show up on time or early as agreed
Subject get there when their boyfriend gets off work

Models help to create the image
Subjects saw a photo in a magazine once

Models put the assignment and or client first
Subjects think they are the focus of the assignment

Models work with  and within client budgets
Subjects have minimum rates regardless of client budgets

Models have great porfolio images from numerous photographers
Subjects have pictures of varying quality according to how good the
photographer was on an individual basis

Models know how to do their own makeup if no mua is around
Subjects like to do their own makeup the way the lady at Macys told
     them to

Models understand the power and need for exposure
Subjects have a minimum rate

Models rest the night before
Subjects show up to shoots late because they were clubbing last nite

Models may bring an escort who has been trained and informed by the
model what to do and what not to do
Subjects require an escort (sometimes paid) who likes to tell the
photographer what to do and where to do it

Models only use the internet as a part of their exposure and marketing
Subjects have a host of web pages

Models are clear with the jobs they will work and have photos to show
what they do in each of those areas.
Subjects like to show their best web, camera or glamour shots photos

Models understand what it means to invest in their career
Subjects heard that you never pay for anything or it is a scam

Models understand that you are only as good as your last shoot
Subjects are proud of their modeling school diploma and dont understand
why everyone isnt falling all over them because of it.

Models make it easy to work with them
Subjects believe that if it were not for them all photographers would
     go our of business.

Models show up for jobs with a variety of clothing options
Subjects dont

Models show work they have done with clients via tearsheets
Subjects have no clue what a tearsheet is

I could go on...but have a shoot in a little bit with a subject.

In my opinion "subjects" are people and/or things that I am being paid to photograph, the subject may or may not be a model, as in the subject (client) of a portrait shoot -

Yes, I would have to disagree with some of that...

I guess I'm in between too, but I'm learning all of this I don't see why that doesn't make me a beginner model instead of a subject.

Exactly...I look at myself as a beginner who is learning...not a model but an aspiring model. Definitely not a subject...and i'm pretty sure ALL 'subjects' don't think and act the way mentioned. lol

lol@ David well...umm *raises hand and runs out of thread*
