Hey all, I'm trying to pull together a winter shoot in late January and would love to have a fur hat for the two models. Any suggestions on where to get them. I really dont want to buy them as it would be a one time use. Rental? Manufacturer?
What do you do for outfits and props? Thanks for any suggestions.

Although time consuming I find wardrobe and props at local thrift stores, You may find a hat there on a whim, You may not.  My method to thrifting is to purchase items as I find them for future use.

Good luck with the hat!

Frank since I work primarily in the Fashion genre I rely heavily on team members... i.e. Wardrobe Stylist and Fashion Designers in my market.  Working in Fashion one quickly realizes it is totally about textile artistry and not about the model nor the photographer... The sooner you get your head around this the more likely you'll be able to take fashion narratives to the next level...

Having a wardrobe stylist on the team is a precious aspect exceeded only by having the actual fashion designer on the shoot to provide creative direction.  This brutal reality becomes readily apparent instantly on set... Oft said that those who know/understand the merits of delegation are best at creative direction...

That said, since I work with many ballerinas I have purchased wardrobe item for my studio to complement their visual statement(s).  Most specifically tutus which are rather bulky and a serious challenge to transport... I also have purchased well over a dozen leotards in various hue/chroma to compliment dance narratives... However pointe shoes are the MAJOR expense here and while I have a collection in various sizes for location work (which will destroy a pointe shoe in minutes) I have subsidized their purchase for those who collaborate... at nearly $100 pointe shoes are a pricey "consumable" which only last but a brief time before having to be retired.

As for fur? I just say NO to Fur!  However I have no problem with faux fur and I trust that you will understand the reasoning here... btw, so many of my team members are sensitive about the abuse of animals that it would be unthinkable to use real fur on my collaborations...

btw, have you considered contacting Amber_Selene as to where she obtained the outerwear she showcased on your June 2014 collaboration?  Just a thought...

Hope this helps or is at least food for thought Frank...
I wish you well on your journey... (Happy New Year!)

Thanks! Amber actually made her own outfit for that shoot. I'm sure she could point me to where she got the materials.

Try E-bay. that's where I picked up my last faux fur hat for a winter look. Looks like they are $ 8-15.00 with free shipping out of US.
