Which edit looks better and more cinematic?
I am honestly so torn with this one, i cannot differentiate the better one, so #1- top or #2- bottom? ![]() Sep 28 16 12:28 am Link Santiago Alvarez wrote: Hey There, Sep 28 16 03:45 pm Link I prefer the top image. Sep 28 16 04:22 pm Link I like the top image as the red eyes contrast with the more believable surroundings. Sep 28 16 06:18 pm Link Out of the two, the top is the one. Reason being is the bottom one lacks enough contrast between foreground and background. Everything in the second image becomes a bit muddy and blends together and seems to be trying too hard. The top (image #1) reads as more visually impactful. Sep 28 16 08:07 pm Link I know this is an edit...but I wonder if threads like this... that ask for member image judgements... dont better belong in the critique forum? If the OP had asked for specific retouching techniques, retouching questions, or methods to produce such changes in images etc... then it seems like yes...this post would belong here. The Image Critique or Image Comment Forum is here: https://www.modelmayhem.com/forums/thread/8 Sep 29 16 01:41 pm Link The bottom one. I don't like the green one at all. Sep 30 16 11:48 am Link I appreciate the feedback guys. I finally went with the bottom one just because of the reasons stated above. Sep 30 16 07:25 pm Link Neither is inherently cinematic. Regarding color choice, it depends on the narrative. I highly recommend the book, "If it's Purple, Someone's Gonna Die: The Power of Color in Visual Storytelling" https://www.amazon.com/Its-Purple-Someo … 0240806883 There are a lot of good books on color theory, but this one (along with a few others) is a staple for art directors and colorists. Color palette is something that should be thought through before you ever pick up your camera, it begins in the storyboarding phase (if, indeed, you are working on cinematic imagery - not all still work needs to be, nor warrants being treated as, cinematic). This is also worth a read: https://www.amazon.com/Color-Correction … CN6TVA5SWP BTW, this image: ![]() Is, to my eye, the most cinematic shot in your portfolio. Nice job! Oct 02 16 07:12 pm Link Bottom. Not only is it setting a mood, the colours work. Unless you change the greens to a more teal and saturated colour. Green looks less intense.. Though I feel the bottom is still too "bright" (looks like you want more dark cold saturated looks, not orangy and warm ones). But it's cinematic in my opinion. If I made the image too dark, I would've lost the "warmness" of the image. Oct 08 16 10:11 am Link I like the top image. The colors are more pleasing and while the word natural doesn't go with the photo theme, the blue/green tinge more natural look actually helps the photo be more appealing. Oct 08 16 10:23 am Link I prefer 2nd one, i love warm colors Oct 25 16 01:56 pm Link Second is better. The first one is a typical filter everyone uses. It's a bit played out. Oct 26 16 04:26 pm Link I like the feel of the bottom one, but it's really what mood you are trying to send or what you want to emphasize on. Nov 05 16 07:48 pm Link |
