THE 3rd LIST PROVIDES ASPIRING MM MODELS WITH TWO IMPORTANT RESOURCES:

1.    A list of skilled members who are willing to mentor, instruct, or advise other models who are wanting such help.
2.    By viewing the portfolios of the Mentors, newbies can learn a great deal about what makes a top model.

TO FIND A MENTOR: 

1.    Check the below list to see if there is a Mentor in your area.
2.    Send a message to one of the listed Mentors explaining what specific type of help you need. The Mentor will get back to you and let you know if they are able to help, and if so, how to proceed.
3.    If there is not a Mentor local to you, put a request on this thread, and check back frequently as the Mentors list is updated regularly.  There are also many models that travel, and may be able to offer useful advice, even if they don’t live in your specific area.

PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT & QUESTIONS: 

If you would like your portfolio assessed by a Mentor, please add your request to this thread.

The assessment will be given in two parts:
Part 1 will be an overview of your portfolio as it currently stands, and
Part 2 will be advice on ways to improve.

The assessment will be sent to you by a mentor via personal message.  If you have additional questions that go beyond portfolio assessment, the mentor will also address those to the best of their knowledge, or they may recommend another source of information.

Please be aware that some models travel, and may not be able to get back to you right away.  If you don’t hear back in what you believe to be a reasonable amount of time, feel free to contact another Mentor on the list, or repost in this thread.

*  If you receive an assessment that you find useful, please consider adding a comment on this thread to show appreciation for the help you were given. This will also encourage others needing help to seek out the assistance of a Mentor.

INTERESTED IN BECOMING A MODEL MENTOR?

Any current members willing to offer their assistance would be most welcome. Please note that the panel will carry out a simple vetting procedure that includes an inspection of the volunteers’ portfolio and profile to ensure that their work is of a certain 'standard'. The volunteer will then be informed that they have been accepted or declined. If accepted, their details will be added to the appropriate part of the list as soon as it’s practical.  We’re primarily looking for model volunteers, but a limited number of photographers will also be considered.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A MENTOR?

1.    An in depth knowledge of your genre/industry.
2.    A willingness to share your knowledge with others on a volunteer basis (mentors caught attempting to charge models for advice will be immediately removed from the list, and further disciplinary action may follow).
3.    Patience, and an understanding of what it’s like to be a newbie.
4.    A commitment to check the 3rd list on a semi-regular basis, and answer model inquiries that you receive via personal message in a reasonable amount of time. 

****Please note that we are not currently in need of additional Mentors for the state of California.  That doesn’t mean we won’t accept additional volunteers, but adding applicants for California will not be priority.

Just a thought on mentoring--It doesn't have to be in-person and one-on-one.  In the old version, portfolio review was one of the most used features.  In fact, sometimes the fact that the model and the mentor were miles, even continents, apart allowed for freer  and more open discussion between them.  And the fact that the model requesting the review might get a number of reviews can help her to evaluate her portfolio from more than one viewpoint.

So feel free, whether you find a mentor near you or not, to simply request a private portfolio review.  Many of us will be happy to respond.
