Why didn't you have the common decency to start this in The Pit rather than make a moderator move it?

Since in a Top Ten we normally count down to number one, I assume you have the number labels backwards? The categories seem to be correctly ordered.

Where do photomicrography and forensic photography and practical stuff like that fit?

When I was a photojournalist, my beat was the clubs of San Diego.  That was probably the least important work I've ever done, but it paid well.

I think the most important form of photography is that which makes the most people think hard.  Or possibly shocks the most people.  Or moves them.  Some photojournalism does fit that, as does some art.  Andres Serrano's "Piss Christ" was a tiny little piece that got the whole country talking and is probably one of the most important photographs of the last century.

Well You got me there ...I would have to Documentary along side Photojournalism
....Product /Adverising maybe should replace food ( as food would be a subcategory) Maybe the artsy photography should replace Paparazzi then again maybe not ....

I would love to do photomicrography; I just need a microscope that will allow me to attach my camera to it (double eyepiece type). Maybe when I'm rich I'll start doing some uber-macro photography!

Define importance, then specify importance to whom, then you'll be almost ready to start.  First, though, you'll have to fix  the places where some of your categories got scrambled.  For example:
Fashion (and upscale glamour other product/advertising),
Nude (and other visual arts, including good bondage),
Good photojournalism (National Geographic, etc.),
Bad photojournalism (Paparrazzi)
Downscale glamour (including porno and bad bondage)
etc., etc.

Hmmm. Since it says genre and not photographs, I'd say point and shoot home-spun photography is the most important. It's our lives.

I still don't think I could answer your question, even speaking from personal preference.  My favorite photographs are those that combine elements of several genres.  I guess I'd have to say that the most important genre is the one that can't be defined.
