Paid Models/Paying Photographers:

I personally don't pay by the hour, instead I pay by the job and I give the model a window of how long the shoot will take. I bullshit and goof around way too much to pay an hourly rate. Call it what you want. We all have our little quirks.

For photographers
If you pay by the hour, do you rush things? Do you try to maximize your hour as much as you can?

For Models
Do you expect to be paid up to the minute or in 15 minute increments, or what?

Discuss and introduce new questions and comments as well.

I give a rate based on what they want and we take as much time as needed to get it.

Sometimes.  Mostly at my day job and not during shoots.  Like right now...I have 4.5 hours until I'm off work and it feels like an eternity.

I don't usually charge by the hour for shoots, it's more of a flat rate or full-day or half-day type of thing.  If I'm really into it, then it doesn't matter how long it takes.  If it's ultra boring (no conversation from the photog, no music, etc), my attention span shortens dramatically, and then I start watching the clock.

I work by the hour, but the hour is a loose general time frame.

I am not going to be a stickler, but I expect the photographer to pay attention and keep up with things. If it runs over to the point of excess, then yes, I will say something.

Yesterday I had a photographer that paid me extra for working over for a while. I was pleased that he took note and made the effort to compensate me for the extra time that we took. It shows a great deal of appreciation. I would recommend him to anyone that inquired in a heartbeat.

This is why I prefer day / half day rates.  No one likes to feel rushed.

Photographers? Pay by the hour? Models? Expect to be paid? What kind of blasphemy is this? smile However, when I am hired to do a shoot I rarely watch the clock unless the model has already informed me that visiting hours for the prison are nearing and she has to deliver her boyfriend's cigarettes and Hustler mags. Don't laugh...it's happened.
