I, probably like a number of you, don't shoot a ton of fashion (actually, I don't shoot any "fashion" per se). I shoot food & beverage commercially along with the occasional head shot and will also shoot pretty much anything else that gets in my way. That said, I recently signed up at photo.net to dump the other crap I shoot there as it really doesn't fit here. Anybody else do the same?

In case you're a masochist.

Guess my headline should have been something like "Escorts! Lose that big butt before the asteroid hits".

LMAO!  Or perhaps "Look!  Boobies inside!".

Nice stuff on photo.net.  Thanks for the link!

You have some spectacular commercial work as well as the theater shots. I know you weren't looking for a critique but I had to comment...you definitely have a knock for product shots.

Gotta' love MM... smile

Seriously though, you've got some great stuff on that site. I had not looked at it before because I'm trying to focus on sites that allow sales of prints as opposed to a focus on community forums. The banter around here is fun to read, but I'd really rather spend the effort trying to bring in some money. smile

Thanks. The nice thing about the theater stuff is that I designed it, shot it and give it to them and they said "thank you sir may I have another". I did it free for total creative control.

Somebody told me that deviant art had an e-commerce section where you could sell postcards, prints, etc., of your work. I haven't checked it out though. And thanks for the kind words.

i have an account, but i don't think i ever used it or posted anything.  i do search the site for info on techy measurbator stuff so i don't have to be one myself.  mm is pretty weak for that.

I just joined a week or so ago and haven't explored much of the site yet. $25 a year for practically unlimited photos seemed like a pretty good deal since I mainly put it up so my nephew in Massachusetts could see the stuff.

I visit photo.net quite often, but have never joined. I do have an account at pbase.com which is a decent hast as well.

I used to be very active there...but not much anymore.
Many of the professionals are gone and don't post anymore for different reasons (mostly because of weird style of site management, ratings and lack of feedbacks from others).

I used it as a way to experiment with my photos, from junks to good and from weird ones to decent ones. I used to get decent amount of feedbacks, get into discussions, fights and all that jazz!

Here is a link...but don't go there if you have anything better to do...lots of photos and not much editing/choosing before posting them! smile

I'm not too active on it anymore either. I really don't like the ratings system, and as someone else has said the number of comments is quite low. I like places where I can get honest feedback on my work, and I found that photo.net isn't really the place for that. Anyway, if anyone would care to see my rather neglected page over there you can see it here:

Some really cool stuff there. I guess the nice thing is you can put up a lot of work for very little money. It's also a place where can see what something looks like on the net without having to delete and maybe reload one of your photos on this site.

Note: I guess that may only make sense to me. I work on one machine and have the internet on a separate machine and no, they are not calibrated alike.

Thank you...it was better than photo bucket because I was making a private poll of how people react to new experiments...from new shooters to retired ones.

They used to have some major names as members ( exhibiting in major art galleries around the world, shooting for many of the high end fashion/photography/art publications, having many times over published books etc.)...imagine get that kind of feedbacks mixed with regular shooters...by the end you could see both side of the coin much better.

But now more and more the new members are not experience enough (and the pro are not active enough) and if I want to stay active there I almost have to educate them before getting any useful feedback which can make the whole experience annoying for both sides.

Good luck to you though. It's a great site, still.

Cheers

I was the same way, I forgot my info to log onto the site actually.   I wonder about having a website http://www.macsfocus.com and a photo.net page - I understand about getting one's work out there, but between MM and *other* modeling sites, how much is enough?  I tend to spend more of my time pitching my website.

I used to spend a lot of time there, and most of what I know about photography on the technical side, I learned there.  I think I have about 300 posts (and I thought that was a lot...)

But as I'm neither a wedding photographer nor a gearhead, once I found MM, I lost interest.  It's still an invaluable asset to me, but MM is a lot more fun.

I am building a deviantART site as we speak and so far it looks worthwhile. I am keeping in mind that building it is only step one. Marketing comes next and will probably be much harder. Here is what a page with a print for sale looks like in case you're interested: http://www.deviantart.com/print/412222/

Do you shoot anything other than fashion/fashion-inspired fine art?

The reason I ask is, if so, where do you put that work?

Aside from the horrendous background color, it looks like they make it easy to use.

I have a site there but not much different than I have on MM or OMP.  Plan is to put up my other photography including 20 years of underwater photography.   Now all I have to do is scan a few hundred slides... may never happen.

I've been on Photo.net since about '96 or '97, then the account got messed up and I had to rejoin. Only put images up there early this year; mostly hung out in the forums.

Been on Photo.Net for a long long time.  I have removed my images for a while and I need to refill.  I find the site very benign, unless you pick a fight.  It is much friendlier than say PhotoSIG where a large specular will get you a castigation for blown highlights, etc.  I go to Photo.Net to be inspired by the great work of others.

In fact, now, I am going to check out the P.Net links in this thread and get inspired.

I can sympathize. I bought the Nikon 9000 ED with the idea that I would scan all of the negatives of my daughter growing up to keep as a backup. I've not scanned the first strip yet.

Photo.net one of the best online galleries on the net.

Photosig has many of the same photogs but also is loaded with GWC Hustler wanna be's.

My wife, who is skeptical about nekkid girls being art, tolerates photo.net because most of the nudes there are either well done or by photogs like me that are really trying to do them well.

I wouldnt pull up Photosig around her though...
