For a copy of the model release form after everyone signs it?
Or is it really necessary of a model to have a copy?
Just a question thanks ; )

I have copies from all of my paid shoots. I have some copies from my TFP shoots.

It's not a bad idea to have copies.

Most of the time I've been offered a copy.  Several times we've just signed two and I take one and they take one.  At any rate, no it shouldn't be a problem to ask for a copy for your record.

It's good to have them "just in case"...but I've never been in the position where I had to pull out the copy and say to the photographer that he or she was using the pictures inappropriately...

Definitely -- if I were a model, I would keep a file of all the model releases and usage agreements.

As a photog, I generally give a copy right at the shoot, or mail it to the model afterwards.

Yes, it is common business practice to receive a copy for recordkeeping.  I find it absolutely necessary.

I always mail out a copy with the CD. PAid or TFCD. The model always needs to know what they signed.

I agree with the posts above, essentially it's a legal form so you shouldn't sign anything without reading  it and taking a copy.

I always take multiple releases to a shoot and I don't understand why some models say they don't need a copy..... better to be safe, whether it's tfp or paid shouldn't make a difference

Exactly......as stated by someone else before, I've never had to use mine for anything, but it's important to keep a copy just in case.  It's always better to be safe about it.

I always obtain a copy. And I READ it prior to signing it. Must know what you're signing. There could be some funny clause hidden in there that allows for something strange and you might not catch it if you assume that its the same as every other release that you've signed...

If you sign a binding legal document, you should have a copy.

I need to start asking for an extra copy from now on. I signed a release where it said I'd get the pictures in 2 weeks and well.... its been a lot longer than that. But, what can one expect from TFP? *sigh* And as if that complaint hasn't been made a billion times. lol

Definitely going to start keeping a release file.

You signed it. How about the individual who promised you the images? If s/he didn't sign it, how can that be binding?

And, in that case, it's not a release any more. It's a contract. There's a difference.

This is a recording.

Yes - it is okay.

In fact, I am unimpressed when someone doesn't ask for it.

If you sign your name to it, you should have a copy of it.  That's my opinion.

I have yet to have someone ask for one even when I offer.  I deal more with amateurs though a couple of professionals.  What I have been asked for repeatedly is an explanation of the release.  Hell, when I first read it I wouldn't have signed it.  I thought I would post this link:

http://www.apogeephoto.com/mag4-6/mag4- … ases.shtml

I now have a copy of it next to the release.

I always give an extra copy of my release form to the model.  It's not a signed copy, but its an exact copy of the release in case she ever has any questions.
