To all pin-up models, photographers, make-up artists... etc..... do you think pin-up models SHOULD have a pin-up name? Is it required to somehow get your name in the industry? Or should we stick with our real names? I'd love to hear some discussion on this, ive always been curious.

It doesn`t really matter. I think your name works as is.
Many of the old pinup models were strippers, so they stuck with their stage names with a few exceptions. It is really a personal choice. I have helped several models come up with "stage names" when they asked.  I seem to be good at that and coming up with good domain names, lol.

EDIT- If you are EVER to cross paths with me somehow I would love to work with you on pinup shots. Get in touch with me about some projects I am working on.

I'm in favor of a pin-up name.  If pin-up is something you are going to focus on 100%, the website, t-shirts, vintage posters, hot rod shows, the whole rockabilly scene, yes, go with a pin-up name.

My 2 cents.

Make it something easy to remember and that sticks.

Nah, some of my favorite girls use their regular names and it doesn't seem to hurt them at all.  I use my real name for that matter...my name is Susan and my nickname is Susi.

I think the best reason to choose a stage name is if you are going to be doing nudes. Then if you decide later you don't want to anymore your name won't be everywhere. Also I think in most alternative genres a stage name is pretty common.I think it just makes you more recognizable to potential fans.

Shouldn't it be like your porn star name -- you know, your first pet's name, followed by the name of the street you grew up on?

I like them, because generally they're fun, which is something I associate with pin-up and the whole retro scene.  It's fun!  It makes you smile.

I concur.  Get a cool name, alliteration, (a poetic or literary effect achieved by using several words that begin with the same or similar consonants, as in “Whither wilt thou wander, wayfarer?) usually helps, ie.. Viva Van Story, April Atomic, Dana DeLux.

All I say is avoid the stereotype names or parts of names. I promised I would be good when I got back on MM so I will not give my view on what those stereotypical pinup names are because someone may get offended yadda yadda and things could turn pit-like smile

I've been shooting burlesque for about a year and a half and all the performers have stage names. I like stage names and feel they make the persona complete.
I think the choosing a name is two parts one is to create a buffer between you and your fan base second would be for marketing.

Here is an informative site which talks in detail about names for belly dancers but you can adopt it to fit most anything.

I was discussing this very topic over the weekend with the manager of the photographer I was working with.  This woman is really into the rockabilly/goth/retro/ side of modeling and told me that she used to have a stage name when she was modeling.  Since I don't consider myself to be a retro pinup model (yet) I haven't needed to come up with one, but before I finish the first few sets of retro pinups I am going to do, I'll have one smile  I am so excited about it I can't wait!!  I'm hoping to have a website up by Feb 2007... *Yay!*

My name is my real name. My dad thought of it.

My parents are also okay with my fetish show I am working on, and they like burlesque.

Nude model, not pin-up, but I'll answer anyways.

My real name is not (thank god) Candy.  I wish I had chosen to go with my real first name, Nicole- or almost any other name.  However, too late to change it now.

But...my last name is very unusual and mispronounced on a regular basis.  I'm glad I went with "Poses" as my last name.

Fake names provide an opportunity to create a new persona, which can be a lot of fun regarding pin-up/burlesque.

Not exclusively a pin-up model, but I do have a fake name.  I like my fake name much more than my real one, and I'm a 3rd year law school student...I don't want any prospective employers finding my modeling work.

While some people feel they may have reasons to want to embellish their moniker with a made up name, I just can't imagine why anyone would want to use anything other than their real name.

Mickey Mississippi ...or the first name could also be Fraiya. I don't know if it would hurt not to have a name but it is definitely fun to think some up!

For me, the top three most important things for a pinup model are: the look, the look and the look. If you've got the look (e.g. my avitar Crystal) they'll remember your name.

In today's world I think either keep just first name out there for the public or have a stage name or model name or pinup name.  It is more of a safety issue to me.

I guess that depends on what you think of your real name.  Many actors change their name I think because they want to start fresh with something that is easy to remember and has the personality you're (they're) looking for.  Like JOhn Wayne.  It's simple, it's rugged, it's All American.

I got a name for any nude model that wants to use it.  Nipon Mee
