godaddy.com...I build my own sites and other photographer's sites...so far no problems....less then $50/year

I use godaddy for domain names but not for hosting.  I don't like to keep all my "eggs in one basket" either.   That means if one company fails on one end, another will pick up the slack.  It also means that I have back ups for my back ups!  LOL

Also by leasing a dedicated server, I don't worry about the "nudity" issue that some companies might not allow on their server.  I have a separate server for DNS and mail.  Then a third is getting set up to handle the e-commerce billing.

A GREAT COMBINATION with over 30 years of business experience between them!

I also do backups...

You might want to check out http://www.dnspark.com/

I list them as my primary NS for one domain and combo for the other... it's handy.

I use Mr Site www.mrsite.co.uk and they are exceptionally good and easily affordable. Very user friendly web design and staff are helpful if you ever get stuck. Highly recommended!

Godaddy is satan. They "lost" my original domain name years ago!
I use Lionzhead.com, and they rock!

Godaddy is sweet. I emailed them at 3am this morning about a problem I was having on a new account. Had it fixed in 30mins. Real Time support smile

They weren't so good to me..
No replies to emails, and I was "disconnected" during tranfers several times with no results!
They may be better now, but they royally sucked back when I used them.

check out www.1and1.com, it's the absolute cheapest out there.

It depends on what you want, if you want Linux platform, I think this is the best solution. If you want NT, it's a bit different, it requires a little diff coding for ASP imo.

But all in all, cheapest solution I found up to date.

I just started using them about 6months ago. Think the Godaddy girl hooked me smile
Not sure what they were like before.

I think they have made some major upgrades since they started. Kinda a good place for the Internet challenged that don’t know how to build html or use FTP clients smile

They are one of few companies that allow you to:
1. Post nudes
2. Use .PHP and/or .ASP and/or .ASP NET

(Note that no one else has mentioned Terms Of Use or scripting languages in their recommendations. Those are important factors to consider in addition to the typical "price" and "reliability/service" that people often laud).

I am with 1&1 and they are great, can't beat the pricing!

what web hosting company do you use? would you recommended?
I'm looking to set up a website soon and I thought I'd ask for some opinions before I started.

thanks for the help.

"GoDaddy.com for the hosting and www.opensites.com.ar for the design. You'll never look back."

Why not use Paypal to take credit cards.  No monthly fee, and 2.9% +.30 a transaction.  The person doesn't even need to have a Paypal account.

Because they can drop your account or not pay you if they decide you have broken any of their TOS agreement.  You cannot sell just everything on paypal, and many photographers don't like to have their work censored. Paypal has dropped many photographer accounts that I know of.  The security is much better going through your own gateway service than it is using Paypal too! The transaction rates are better too!  It's much better to set up your own merchant account!  If it is at all possible, I will never use Paypal ever again!

A company as large and in business for as long as Godaddy.com is not going be able to avoid having some complaints. I use them for domains and security certificates, etc. ... but not hosting. They have been pretty darn good for me, but then I only use them for certain services that I know they are good for.  wink
