We have all seen or shot them, the subject on a solid seamless background with no shadow under or behind them.

“Floaters “are what I call them it looks like they are floating in mid air. I prefer to have shadows under or behind my subjects IMO it makes the photo seem real not surreal.
Unless surreal is what you are going for of course.

What is your preference and why?

Shadows give perspective and depth of field. In this particular photo, a shadow would detract from the angelic portrayal of a beautiful little girl. This photo stands alone, on it's own merits, and doesn't need the distractions of long shadows. The eye focuses on the girl, and stays there, where it belongs. IMO

Pardon me for saying so, but the only thing that takes away from the image, is your copyright nameplate.

She's a beautiful girl. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

Haha being a mother ..."floater" reminds me of the same thing a "sinker" reminds me of.......I wont go there though.....I am sure some already know what I am thinking.....lmfao

Without shadows she could be a floater if she had angel wings on !

I don't like to see shadows on the background of high key portraits.
