This is a general question to all, does having classy 18+ in ones port scare models off  from wanting to working with you?

What kind of models? I personally like to see how the photographer shoots nudes.

If they are *models* then no... if they are little girls/boys pretending to want to be models, then yes.

Good comment. I try to show my versatility. It doesn't mean every person I shoot with agrees to shoot nude, implied...etc. But, if I am approaching a model on a specific idea, then it affords them the opportunity to see if I can shoot a variety of work and do it well. smile

If your port is nothing but nudes, yes I imagine it would scare off some models.  If your port is more representative of various types of modeling, the only ones who will get scared off are the ones who focus on the nudes and wouldn't do that style regardless.  If they get scared off, oh well.  I'm sure McDonalds loses business from vegans but is it really impacting their bottom dollar....

I sure hope it doesn't because I have nudes in my port.  I usually explain in detail on the first email what kind of shoot I plan on doing.  If I contact someone to do a non nudity shoot I say specifically that this shoot will contain NO nudity or implied nudity.

I would only have Adult models, those only wanting to shoot that style.  I'm not trying to shoot all nudes, just from time to time when the Light and Figure is amazing.  ART!!

scare off, no, but I will get an email/message back to the effect, "I love your work but I' not interested in doing nudes" sometimes it's followed up by an, "Is that O.K."

Personally I find it sad but amusing. I have NEVER asked a model right off the bat, will you shoot nude. I have had many o shoot where the model didn't even get close to nude, yet some models think that because I have nudes up then i'm "on the prowl" for nekkie chix and nekkie chix only!

Pretty much my experience as well.

I just refuse to work with those models...

I wouldn't want to work with a model who was scared by them, so in that respect they make a good filter  smile

I would think it depends on the "model" and the type of 18+ images on the portfolio. I shoot ONLY nudes...but it is fine art as opposed to sexually oriented work. Not really a good or fair idea to lump all 18+ images together in a singular category. Originally it was what kept me off MM. It's insulting to be lumped in with gore, extreme bondage and soft core porn (And some NOT so "soft" core). But then it makes it simple for MM to do it that way. I maintain the site will never be "Work Safe" as long as a single Bikini or lingerie shot remains but that's a topic for another thread. I believe that a model, even one who is not so much into nudes, can see the difference in the content and aim of nude images. So While the girl with the bare ass sticking into the camera may scare them off (Many it won't because that's how THEY TOO make their $$), the one lying by the rushing waters of a nature area or lying on rocks in a desert scene will not. And as commented earlier, the maturity of the "model" and the seriousness of their commitment will have a lot to do with it as well.

Most of what I do is considered 18+.  I joined this site to network with like- minded people.  It is my hope that once a model views my port, they can understand what I do, and what to expect from a possible collaboration.  If what I have posted scares off a potential model, then we clearly could not work together anyway.  Nothing against these people, it just means our goals are different.

One word.  yes.

I have had several models that back away because there are nudes in my port.  Keep in mind I shoot just about anything but nudes are part of my port.

Many don't mind but some have the mindset that if you shoot someone nude...tasteful or not....it is porn and they fear you're going to try and get them to do it as well.

I have no lack of interest generated by either 18+ photos... or my darker work. i think that most people can look at your work and figure out what you're after and what you're about.

Some will disagree but nudity and modeling go together. Models who don't do nude should stick to commercial work. Fashion models need to show it at some point or another, just look at girls who've been kicked off america's top model for not doing nude.  Scaring off the type of models who won't go the distance for the perfect shot is exactly what you should be doing!

Well, gee -- I pretty much make nude images exclusively, so I pretty much have to put nudes in my portfolio.  One or two may have to be more PG-13-ish so that I can use them as my avatar, but the rest ... bare butt naked!

So, from my perspective, what's the problem if models who don't want to do nudes are scared away?

New talent sometimes offers great potential, for both the Photog and Model.  I just don't want to scare them away.  Hopefully they read my BIO that states "I will not to ask for any other type a shots that is not in your port"

In my case I shoot nude and non-nudes.  Some of the non-nudes I need are women that don't shoot nudes...they look great in a swimsuit or lingerie.  But because nudes are in my port they back away.

1.  They don't want their pics next to nudes.
2.  They think you are a perv for shooting nudes.
3.  They flat out think you are a pornographer.

That being said some of these models "are" great models...but for the reasons above chose not to shoot with you.  To me it is a little short side on their part but hey...to each their own.

To Funny, it's amazing how many views 18+ pics get.  My wife got 180 views with in 2 hours on one 18+ pic and 2 on the commercial shot!

seems like it.  but honestly, i have personally learned that hobbyist models choose not to work with a photographer if they see a 1 particular "style" of shooting in your portfolio that they are not open too.  whereas a more serious model wouldn't worry about that.

When I put 18+ photos in my portfolio, life blossoms

This one pulls in more excited requests for photo shoots than perhaps any other, and it's not even 18+
