hey all
I,m fairly new to the business and I,m looking for some good software to organize,catogarize, and edit shots
any suggestions

Without doubt, you need Photoshop to edit digital images.  Having said that, I have found that PS Elements is good enough for 95+% of what I require, it's also only about 1/8 the price of full PS [in the UK anyway]. Either way it will take a while to learn to get the best out of it.

It term of filing images, I have all mine listed in date order [year/month/day] with out special systems/software. Stored on PC, Seperate drive and backed up to CD.
If saving for longer term, try to save images as TIFF, jpegs deteriate everytime thay are saved and RAW is different for every camera/company etc.
