a couple folks have suggested finding models for shoots on craigslist or myspace.  has anyone had any experiences, good or bad, in setting up shoots with folks from those sites, especially tfcd?

I responded to some adds of girls who """"Model""""" unquote.

Well I got tottally turned off when they responded with thier Quotes addin in it BG/GG...etc.. Prices

Basically I came to the conclusion that they were leaking out of the erotic section.

So many of the ads on CL are bullshit. You reply and they send u a link trying to get you to join some website.  I'm sure there might be good opportunities, but there is a whole lotta crap on there.

I've gotten about a 5% response rate to ladies on myspace.

Some were awesome and started ports here after we worked together.

Some were just OK and seemed to be happy where they were.

Sorta like here only lower response rate.

I've worked with models on both and the result was good and not so good.  It depends.  If you post an add and have a specific idea in mind, just make sure you post that in your add.  Or else you will get a lot of people wanting free pictures if it's TFCD.

The model in my avatar just got a compensated modeling job within a week from her myspace account with only two of my photos posted. This was her first photo shoot as well.

Hell'n contactd me to shoot her and I said yes. I’m very pleased with her and will be working with her again soon.

I think that's a ridiculous assertion. There are beautiful girls walking down the street, who are probably not on OMP or MM. Apparently you disagree?

I've had good luck with both.  Use the same common sense precautions you would anywhere, and they can both be useful to you.  In fact, MySpace has hooked me up with more than one legit agency model, so you never know.

I've had good luck with Craig's List when I have posted the listing.  Yes, there have been a few flakes but that, I think, is normal anywhere when you are doing TFCD.  I have not had any success responding to a model's listing.  In speaking with models and photographers from other cities, the experience with Craig's List is different than mine in New York.

Well my last trip to Chicago only ONE model from MM came through.  The rest
were from Craigslist.  This despite those who claimed to be really interested in
shooting and serious.  Its funny I see some of them respond in threads about
how they don't cancel and are dependable and I just want to puke.  Anyway
its just another place to advertise and the listings need to be updated often like
once a week.  There are flakes everywhere but to respond to a MM casting you
have to have a profile here unless the persons email and phone number is included
in their casting. I think many on MM are a bit jaded and most models don't read
the castings where on Craigslist they look for casting calls.  Its just another place
to look for models.  Myspace is also OK.  OMP hasn't worked at all for me.
Craigslist has been the best by far.

I see more big name photographers on Myspace than here. Same can be said about actors, models...

It all is good and it really depends on how you rub people..

Maybe that is why I am able to shoot some of the top models even though most of you have never heard of me..

Craigs is a mixed bag.

I put up an ad there while i was still in iraq.  90% of the people that wrote me back were affiliated with alphamodel group.  I'm thinking someone at alpha read my post then spammed there email list.

Out of the 30 or so replies i'm going to end up shooting with about 3 of them with none of them being from alpha.

Not great odds, but par for the internet.

I reached the conclusion that Craig's list is worthless outside of the coasts. Great if you're in SF or NY, but probably not so much in flyover country.

And of course, myspace is for teeny boppers.

Craigslist actually used to be really good for networking with models. But in the last year or so it has become pretty much useless. A lot of people post ads on there regarding modelling, just so they can get your e-mail address and send you spam. Also since they let users flag off postings, it seems as if a lot of postings get flagged off for no reason other than someone has a chip on their shoulder.

Lately I've had much better luck with myspace.

I second this.  In SF, I used to get great work through Craigslist (I actually found my favorite gig ever there), but in Columbus, it's pretty useless.

I've had pretty good luck with MySpace, and only one flake-out. I've also gotten a flake-out from OMP, so go figure. I haven't tried CL, and no flakes from MM yet (crosses fingers)...

Every single TFP/CD that I have done was off of MySpace.  Usually the people are very nice and we set up a date to meet before hand in an open setting.  I've had very good experiences with it.  You need to simply ask and go from there. smile  I've received nothing but flakes on OMP  and I have yet to work with anyone on MM.

dont you want a model? or just any pretty gal that may or may not be photogenic or have a clue what to do, how to behave, how to pose, what to bring, how to be prepared, professionalism, understand about releases, lights, sets, usage, legalities, photoshop, never mind be comfortable and capable..after all, experience   makes  a model..

I've had pretty good experiences with models that I found on CL, although they've been mostly pretty inexperienced (not that it matters). In fact, 4 of the women in my port were obtained thru CL.

Nothing off of MySpace yet.

LOL  i guess i'll take some sushi then since i'm addicted to it! lol

this is true, that they do lack some of the knowledge and skills, but who knows how things will turn out?  i mean, we're not all lawyers so not even all of us on the site have full knowledge of the legalities, that's why there are lawyers.  Not even all of us are models or photographers or stylist and mua's so we are lacking in certain areas as does everyone. The girls that I've contacted through like MySpace have been pretty good.  They are not models and nor have they ever considered or thought about or will pursue.  However, each one I have contacted has these few things in common; a willingness to learn and understand things, a creative mind, and a wonderful outter beauty that matches them on the inside.  I actually may be 1 of the few people that goes over the papers with them face to face before hand and makes sure that they understand each thing in it before anything takes place.

I mean, people are not dumb, they can learn and understand, and as a photographer you are always working with someone new.  You'd need to be able to adapt and make the best of the set.  Giving direction, explaining things, help coordinate things.  Especially for things like TFP/CD.  Heck, I do the makeup/hair/styling and everything for most of my TFP/CD shoots.  Plus, my area is pretty scarce of actual models.  Each 'model' that I've contacted here through a site like this or OMP they have all been complete flakes! It may have something to do with my age.  The very 1st model I worked with, a photographer friend of mine had set up for me, and him and I both shot at that session.  She thought because I looked so young that she wouldn't receive 1 good pic out of the whole shoot with me.

I admit that I am pretty young and have much to learn.  However, for something that I love doing like photography (that makes me happy each day I get to do it no matter how tedious) I will go out of my way to ask anybody on any network that I can network on to work with that I think may be able to help me expand and further what I want to do. Plus, I am sure that that is why other photographers approach random people or message people on things like MySpace who aren't models.

side note: i'm asked often enough why i won't book an internet (be it MM, OMP, MySpace, other) model for a commercial shoot.

reasoning is easy enough: in the case of some mishap or unplanned illness, the ['Net] cannot provide me a replacement in a timely matter. one call to the agency & generally s.o. can be found quickly. too, most clients are gonna wince a bit at the additional costs to fly in/out, lodge, and feed an out-of-town model on their job/budget. all becomes a question of business.

lol I did spell that wrong! lol I didn't even notice!!!
Well, as for me who gets mostly portrait work from the locals and I do not consider myself anywhere near professional yet.  I think I would be laughed at for calling an agency for a model. lol  If I could I would seriously not be looking on places like MySpace.

ive gotten a decent amount of paid gigs from myspace. people everywhere want to feel good about their pictures, so in my mind, its just another marketing tool. i wouldnt call 95% of the people ive shot from there 'models', but I sure would call them customers.

well the number of folks who actually have found models on c.l. or myspace surprises me.  i have only used c.l. for renting out an apartment, and a friend of mine sold a bike on it, but maybe there's hope.  as for myspace, do you use a search term (e.g., "model") to find potential models or what?  sorry if that's a dumb question but i am not on that site....i always figured it was a dating site -- and i don't need that!
