that little box with the red "X", or is it just called the box with the little red "X"?

You know... Like the one you get when the pic uploader isn't working... big_smile

If you mean on a web page where there is supposed to be a picture [or other graphic] but the picture [graphic] doesn't actually show just a box with the "x" in it? If so the BOX itself is called the "place holder" or "image place holder" and will be the size [variable] defined in the html code for the image it is supposed to contain in that space on the page - the "x" icon is system generated when the image is not available.

here's part of the code describing your post above:

where you see the code calling https://av.modelmayhem.com/avatars/164432_t.jpg
that is your avatar and the code places it in the right place in the frame

---

if you call it directly you get this
https://av.modelmayhem.com/avatars/164432_t.jpg

---

If the image is called but not served up then you should see only a defined sized box in the code designated place - with or without the red "x" inside it.  The empty box is the "place holder" for that avatar image. Instead of the red "x" - it seems that on this site the words "no pic" appear [and this is actually a default graphic] - that is used to replace the unavailable image.

If you read the directions on the box... "replace words like Xerox, Box, Xylophone with Copy, Carton and Marimba when typing"
