There was a thread a short while ago on recruiting models on Myspace or Craigslist.  Now I can't find it.  Same question.  Has it been helpful for you and if so how do you use?

Anyone know where the previous thread is?  Can't find it under any of the forums?

i actually organized a michigan specific group on myspace, so people can network through there: http://groups.myspace.com/index.cfm?fus … 2250534718
and i have done some tfcd through myspace finds. craigslist has been good to me too. shot a girl yesterday (the shot in my profile with the flowerbed in the background) who's father found me through CL. anything can be a good networking tool if you have the right approach and are realistic in your expectations.

My port has two models from both those sites. On MySpace, I briefly introduced myself, linked to an online port and asked if she would be interested. We exchanged a few messages and then met in person. On CL, you have to seperate yourself from the GWCs.

I get many photography inquiries on myspace per day,and book about 2 to 5 paid model shoots a week from myspace. The local newspaper even wrote a story on my myspace marketing technique. The secret to getting business off myspace is to let people know you exist. I started three local myspace groups, so now when i recruit new members or people join my group they can see my profile as a professional photographer. Also being in peoples Top 8 helps, so keep a professional looking page with samples and a contact number.

I like MySpace because it casts a much wider net  beyond those that have any desire to get anywhere w/n the modeling industry.

I use MySpace all the time. The flake rate is about the same, but I get a much higher rate of positive responses to intitial emails than the model-site crowd.

Also, I'm in a tiny market. Of the four models I've contacted within 25 miles of me on MM, I've shot with one, the other three ignored my emails. I get about the same response rate from local models on OMP. Most of the models and MUAs I work with drive over from Houston or Galveston.

My current portfolio has two MySpace discoveries, including my avatar (I'm shooting with her again this weekend).

Of the models in my "outbox" that will soon be in my portfolio, 6 were contacted via MySpace, 4 from a combination of MM, OMP, and MP.

I'm actually planning to put more effort in my MySpace account soon and split my personal friends/family to another account.

Thanks for all the information.  I'm going to spend some time today checking out all of the links and myspace in general.  Sounds like it is worth the effort.  I have not used MM all that much only because it was so slow a few months ago.  Seems a bit better now.  Have used OMP more and very little luck overall but the one model from OMP that I have worked with is great.  Worth the effort overall.
