Influences in art, photography, fashion, etc.
Open to all to respond with things that influenced you or that you know influenced others greatly. This one is not so much an influence on me. It is a movie that influenced movies and fashion greatly. I posted it elsewhere but it is likely to just get lost. Oct 09 06 11:19 am Link As a painter I get completely inspired by visiting museums. Occasionally I'll get up on a Saturday morning and go down to the High Museum and just walk through the permanent collections...I have several favorite pieces amongst the museum collection. I find that by the time I'm doing walking around looking at the art, I am completely on fire with creative inspiration and the urge to run home and pick up my brushes is inescapable. I am lucky to have such a rich source of inspiration so close to me. Oct 09 06 11:38 am Link The street influences the runway. Often it's a subculture that lends bits to frocks, as in studs borrowed from industrial lasses, or makeup influenced by goths. Public optimism or pessimism translates in Paris to either frilly sundresses or camo with boots. Another influence on the runway seems to have been the relative status of women in our Western culture. When women seem to be taking power, the couture houses knock them down a peg with clothing that can't be worn. When women seem to be backing off, fashion decides to empower them again. It's a strange sort of passive-aggressive pattern. What has influence my photography is that there is a generation now for whom sex isn't a naughty word. Frankly that puzzles me, but the openness that my generation never had is a reflection of, in particular, the power women now have to control their own lives and sexuality beholden to no man. And while the repressed dirty old man inside me thinks this is really hott, it makes me believe that things are better now for women, for my daughter, than they ever could have been even twenty years ago and I think this is all going in the right direction. -Don Oct 09 06 01:41 pm Link 1)Human interaction. 2)Honest people trying their best.
