I'm just curious as to which male and female models prefer...... Male photographer or female photographer? I myself having just retired from 23 years of modeling have ALWAYS prefered working with female photographers. It's just much more comfortable and less stressful. Though as a female photographer I get very few male models willing to work with me, even when pay is involved. What's your opinion? Male or female photographer?

The assumption is always for female models that a female photographer is safer and not just looking to get a model naked. Though we have heard that some female photographers can be very pushy. We have heard many good and bad examples in either direction on these forums. You can not know the other persons intentions until it is all said and done.

That is a very good point. I have had female models be quite pushy yet, something about working with another female just makes me feel much more at ease. Perhaps a psycological "no threat" feeling.

Well, working with both male and female models,They tend to be more comfortable and willing to be very creative when shooting with me, But recently,When I was shadowing a male photographer, I noticed that the models seem to tense up a tad bit more than the way they usually were, and the sense of getting the a good shot was all in mind. I agree that I am pushy but their actions and personalities seem to shine confidently with a female photographer. I guess its all for the cause.

Oh man, my hair's longer than that! And red too. And pasty white with freckles is more my natural color.

One would hope it would depend on the individual photographer. The vast majority of compliments I get for my work are from women, so I must be doing something right.

That said, when shooting a wedding, I work exclusively with female assistants. I know a bridal party of women isn't likely to let me in their dressing room while they're changing (and I won't ask), but they might let a woman.

I've never had complaints from either male or female models.

I do have to chuckle; my former female assistant was Bi, leaning more toward the female side of the genetic pool.  On more than one occasion, she got into the scene with the model, leaving me to hold the lights/reflectors/etc.

She always said there were perv photographers out there ... I now wonder if she's put herself in harms way shooting other females she finds attractive.

An aside story: she feels escorts are important, yet on her first modeling assignment, her boyfriend escorted her to the shot and then tried to pimp her out to the photographer.  Needless to say, that releationship didn't last long.

It's a good question, but I don't think it can be answered with a blanket statement  such as "female models are more at ease with female photographers than male"I think it depends alot on the individual and how they percieve the world. What are  the circumstances, are the parties involved experienced, are they working alone ,is this the first time they have worked together, etc.Nor do I think that a female photographer is going to get better shots just because she is a she  and makes the model feel more at ease.

I'd say, based on things models have said to me, female. Almost every model I've worked with has expressed they like and feel more comfortable working with me because I'm female. Same with males. I've often been told by males they feel comfortable working with me rather than a male photog because they say they feel awkward posing for/in front of  other males. That's my experience on the issue with models I've worked with, anyway.

I think that female photographers do have an advantage.

I'm new to all this but I would jump on the chance to work with a female photographer.  I really feel like it would be a lot of fun and females have an eye for the male form that a lot of male photographers don't have.  I hope to work with a female photographer soon.

I've been told the same thing. Normally I meet models first before shooting with them. As to break the ice a bit. Sometimes a model(s) travel a great distance and that isn't always possible. At first the models are a bit "stiff" and rigid in front of the camera but tend to loosen up a bit after 15 or so minutes.

Not meaning to knock the male photographers but I hear from almost every model I have worked with - male photographers tend to make them a bit uncomfortable whereas a female model normally doesn't. I just have a hard time getting them in front of the camera. Once I do, it's smooth sailing from there and normally they want me to do all their updates. I do believe that female photographers do have an advantage.

I assisted for a photographer who said he pretty much only used female assistants because they put his subjects more at ease.  That was for executive portraiture type work though.  I guess we're non-threatening.

I've always been  male, no choice there.
I use female assistants, tried guys but they get wrapped up hitting on thes, and I ended up doing everything.
