The examples shown here are NOT what I'm talking about. I'm talking about images that are clearly shots that are not taken for model purposes.

The examples here I can understand - they show the model's looks, what they have to offer..

What I'm talking about are the very lo-res images that you can't see anything about the model really.

Poloroids can be great tools - I've used them a lot in the past.

I'm sorry my question came across snobby - I in no way was bashing anyone in particular. I was just questioning what the criteria is for portfolios.

Shots like that one, where it's obviously a club shot, and doesn't show any serious intent toward modeling.

Even if you have a point and shoot and just stand straight, looking toward the camera so the potential photographers can see what you have to offer is better than lo res club shots, or camera photos...

I was stood up by a model from NJ who has been a member for awhile and STILL only has five crappy snaps in her port...

Better yet- some of the "models" that I have offered a TFCD to (who also have only a few crappy snaps in their ports) don't even reply to me.  I have found that New York and the surrounding areas have quite a few "models" who are members-but not serious AT ALL!!! It is starting to irritate me.

Even some of the semi-pro models don't reply to me- WTF???

End of my little rant...
sorry.

I think that this is a valid point with photographers, they should have professional shots to display their talent. As far as models having home made pics on their profile. i'm one of those and i have done it so that i can meet a photographer to take quality, TASTEFUL shots ( TFP/TFCD). Unfortunately, being an aspiring Plus Model it's hard, apparently, for me to get out of the fetish, erotic, and tasteless offers and find a true photographer who is truly passionate and of the ART, not the "other" things. So, that is why i still have "snap shots".  I understand what you are saying though.

That's to help you spot the GWCs.

There is NO reason why ANY aspiring model could not go from snap shot to decent images within 30 days.  I hear what photogs are saying and I thot that Cleveland was the GWP capitol.  With so many photogs/GWC trying to build their ports also, and models all over CLAIMING to want to photograph, these little girls need to grow up and move back to MySpace.  If you are too busy to shoot, then you need to be removed until you are free.  If you can not reply to mail you need to be banished PERIOD.

Furhtermore, photgos and models who Tag snapshots as a 'nice portfolio' is not helping these aspiring models at all.  All you are doing is stroking their egos instead of educating them on what they need to do.

Unless a photog/GWC is coming on or is a perv, snapshot gurls need to be pointed out and removed in 30 day from their signing up.  This will improve the image os MM and as a group, we can thin the herd.  I think that the MM moderators need to hear from the models and photogs who are fed up with these MySpace minded wanna-bees who are bringing down MM.

Hell, I opened this thread because I thought someone was talking about me again. Or Lex Nova.

Imagine my disappointment to open the thread and seeing it's about neither.

This is a free, internet model and photography site.  Call me a socialist, but I'm glad all are welcome here.  My hope is that in 6 months you'll log on to a model's site which currently has only snapshots and find he or she has added some higher quality photos as a result of their participation here.

Better yet, let's all of us photographers pick a 'needy' model and improve their site by a couple of shots, that'll greatly reduce the sucky ports, eh??

That is EXACTLY what we are trying to do, but these GWP refuse to respond to mail OR refuse to shoot.    They need to be removed.

The word "Mayhem" is in the title of the site isn't it?  Is it supposed to be a organized, well regulated mayhem?  I am wondering what a "snapshot" is so that I can continue to repeat it.  I want to stay unprofessional, I want to protect my amateur status so I can take pictures in the Olympics.

Some of you work so hard finding things to be bothered by, you must be exhausted at the end of the day.  If all of us unworthy people are so offensive to you, go form a site called "Photography Elite" or something similar, I promise I will leave you alone.

I get frustrated looking for local models to work with who never answer emails too.  I figure that somebody who lives out here in the boonies and has three web cam photos in their port should be thrilled to find ANYBODY (even some hack like myself) willing to spend some time taking better pictures for them.  I have seen some on other sites who have the same three pics up a year later.  I laugh at them, I don't get offended and threaten to take them out back and shoot them.

If all of us underachievers bother you elite photographers so much, why do you keep coming back?  If I go to a place to eat that serves me inedible crap, I don't complain to management and offer suggestions, I go somewhere else.

I don't know what a GWP or GWC is, but i do know that there are some photographers that are flaky also. I've had a couple contact me and say they want to work with me and when i say okay, when? I don't hear back...are they just saying that to say something?

I thiink it is crazy for someone to ask why snapshots are allowed.  Im a former US Arm Combat Photographer with more than 20 yrs of time behind the lens.  My early professional work looked worse than most of the so called snapshots Ive seen on here.  When I see a model in the Atlanta area that has a poor page due the images but has a god face and body for modeling I offer a test shoot at no cost.  It gives them a start with 5-10 images to post, I gain them as a customer and they have always referred me to other models.  We have to help each other out.  I remember two models in Charlotte that allowed me to shoot them when my port didnt really have alot of model photography.

We all need to use this port to help other peolple which will in turn help us out.

Your port is not what I'm talking about. Your shots show a full length shot a profile and a couple of different angles on your face.

Which is what most photographers are looking for when looking at models.

tongue  The images in your port are not what I'm talking about.

*sigh*  I try very hard to be eloquent and open minded about things...

I started this forum to get insite.. as I said before. tongue

I don't really care - if I don't like a models look, I don't contact them. Be that their style, their images/portfolio etc.

I like to hear other peoples input.

Don't take it so seriously.

I couldn't agree with you more.  I started using this site about a month ago to find models to expand my portfolio while still in school, and the more I look around the more garbage I find.
