I was thumbing through the October 2006 J. Crew catalog, and it was full of wronkled up muslins!

I don't know which is worse: knowing that someone in charge thought the wronkled up look was good enough to publish or knowing that so many people made a lot of money on something so bad.

(Also, check out the TERRIBLE Photoshop job on wronkles on the right...I can't believe these people have jobs.)

It still looks 500 times better than American Apparel ads.

I think it's funny when I see stuff in national ad campaigns that know-it-alls on modelmayhem forums condemn. Selective desaturation shows up on a hell of a lot of billboards, ya know, but apparently those people haven't consulted the MM Gods of Photographic Style.

However - this is a bad example. The image you posted is the only one that's wronkled, on the page you linked to... the rest have wood, or seamless paper backgrounds. Maybe the catalog is full of wronkles, though.

Dave, just because a bunch of advertising dicks do it doesn't make it tasteful... look at the 80's

I also think that.
But everyone has their opinion.

They *were* good.  They were too good though.  They went past ads and tried for "art" and over achieved a little.

The clone stamping or whatever they did on the right there to replicate the exact same wronkle three times is amazing.  I don't know about y'all, but I'm suddenly feeling much more optimistic about the odds of making a living at this!  wink

Yeah, it's ugly on billboards, too.

Pages 12, 13, 16, 20, 21, and 22 are all wronkled up.

But, Dave, can you honestly say that the crappy clonejob on the backdrop is acceptable?  It takes about 18 seconds to do a better job than that.  Hell, they'd get better work out of this thread:

Victoria's Secret is guilty of wronkled sheets as well. (summer catalog) I tried to post it when I saw it but the MM forum was down.
