What brought you to this site? I came here to find alternative lifestyle models for projects that land based agencies won't touch. I found a community that's mostly fun to interact with and I've been able to work with a number of talented people on my personal projects. So far it's been a pretty rewarding experience. I use this place as a marketing tool and a sounding board, I network and I posterbate to the point of addiction.

What about you?

The same , and today I am not doing my dishes I have no excuse , pathetic  yessss indeed smile

LOL but there are some new purrdy pics in on my port today , and having creative input in them makes me happy...

I am here to practice my typing skills as well , but I still type like poop.
Some people complain , but others seem to understand I am a model... not a typist.

I notice you live in Cairo...

The models here are no flakier than on OMP (and in fact, they're better in terms of awareness and communication) and the site is free. So far I have hired a number of really good models from here and gotten some shots I am happy with. So far, so good.

I've seen some shots on here that excite and challenge me, and that's always good. I've gotten ideas, too - which is priceless. Haven't picked up a lot of technique, really, but then this isn't a critique site, really. (And critique sites like photosig are worthless, anyhow)

It's also a fun place to enjoy the occasional argument or try to help someone out with a technical question, if I think I know the answer.

I find that, with most sites, there's a "cycle" in the discussions. The same topics keep coming up again and again and again as new people join the site and have to ask the questions that are important to them. That's normal for an Internet message board and I have to constantly remind myself of it, so I don't quit in disgust.

Most importantly, I have "met" at least a dozen people on MM who I'd be happy to sit down and eat pizza and drink beer with, while we talked about photography. Nothing beats that!

I don't know. Originally, it was to network. Now....

This place is like a good drug. You know it could be bad for ya', you love it, you hate it, you keep going back.

I came here as a way to show some of my work as I don't yet have a website. I stay mainly because I work alone and you people are the only ones I get to talk (type?) to all day (except for those annoying clients). It's quite sad if you think about it.

Sometimes when I'm into my 52nd post of the day to a lot of the same people, I wonder if I have a life anymore myself. I try to take sabaticals from here to refresh the thought process. When I start alienating people thats usually a sign it's time to back off. Oh, also when I can't meet a dead line and use another excuse to tell the client why, I think that might also be time to back off.

I have Nikki sitting beside me all day, and she says so little that I sometimes feel alone as well. How sad is it that I say more to you by typing than I do to here by talking. But here's the good part. I just learned something about lighting from looking at a portrait you did on your site. How do you beat that?

I've been asking myself that a lot lately, too.

I know the jokes made here about Myspace, but...

Throughout the day, that's where I usually keep in contact with my offline friends, make our plans for the night, or the weekend. Since I've started posting in this forum, they've been asking, "Where the hell have you been? Why haven't you been out to any shows...". I'm like, 'Uh... I've been... busy.' But I've been here and not keeping up on what shows are going on and haven't been to any lately. I've so gotta' get off this site! Lol..

I can only assume that was how "not" to light something. :-)

It does sort of feel like a fully dysfunctional family though, with the crazy aunt, senile grandfather, arrogant brother, goofy sister, etc., along with a few obnoxious neighbors always poking their noses in.

Doh ! I think i am guilty of that , i have missed work from being on mm too much , I am an independent contractor working for my self so it's not like a straight job, but it is my buisiness , so i scewed myself over ...

I have grounded myself from mm for days... strictly responses only! no browsing... trolling... posting....
it's no use ... here we are again. But I like it.

Absolutely not. It was from a beautiful portrait that was lit in such a manner I had to look at it to understand and when It came to me I said "damn, why didn't I ever think of that". I'm always fighting myself and I have a hard time getting out of my own way.

Edit.... Oh, and right this minute, I'm supposed to be setting up a shot that I postponed yesterday cause I was trying to think of something intelligent to say to our new friend from Kansas that's so pissed at me.

Almost a year ago there was a model I was talking to and we talked about doing some shoots and she said I should sign up on modelmayhem (I was just really getting started with doing photography).  Never did get to shoot with her lol    But Ive gotten to meet a lot of people and shoot with quite a few models on here, and even recommended MM to some of the girls I've shot with.  smile

Thanks. Let me know sometime which one you're referring to.

Might I suggest you just tell him that perhaps you've "evolved" more than he so maybe he misunderstood your comments.

By the way, I leave tomorrow for a few weeks in Montana, Wyoming, etc., so you guys need to make sure the lights are turned out and the doors locked until I get back.

Because my job is like a rusty steel bear trap around my ankle.  I no longer have the strength to try and get out of it.

And MM gives me something else to look at while the wound goes septic.

(Happy thoughts, Bill.  Happy thoughts!)

Good imagination, typing skills, hangin' out with the cool art kids, wow, it's living fiction with real people drivin' their own personae, another Internet challenge to old ideas about boundaries (some spell it like "foundries" ) , but it's a major time suck too, a perpetual 24/7/365 Left Bank Sunset Strip Washington Square . . . .

More coffee, please.

I came because a photographer friend (Viva) was kind enough to let us gals know about a cool new site where we could post alot of images for free.  I stay because I like the thread Addie Jumper started about escorts.  Oh, and they haven't voted me off the island yet...that's the main reason I'm here.

Why am I here?

I often ask myself the same question!! I am not really a photographer of models more a photographer who will shoot the occasional model if requested, also I am living in England and the majority of people who use this site are based in the US so it is not really a great site for me to network with local people either.

Yet I still come here everyday!!!

Which brings up the next question of WHY?

I guess for me it’s an entertainment thing, I just get caught up in reading the posts in the forums (the time just fly’s by) and you do get used to, and familiar with, the regulars on the site (as if they are friends down the local pub) although I must admit I do tend to read the threads where the likes of Bob Randall, W.G. Rowland, Face Reality and studio36uk have posted because they tend to be the more interesting and amusing posts.

So all in all I guess I am just another sad photographer, with too much time on his hands who needs to get himself a life eh?

Sounds like the tag version of a flake.

i was helping my friend's kid do a school paper on nuclear reactors and safety, we did a google search on meltdown and came across

www.bobrandallmeltdown.com

which had a link to model mayhem

it was a pool type website, you pick a day they you think he's going to blow completley, and if he does on the day you pick, you win the pool..

the site folded when someone realized that when he did meltdown no-one would be able to tell the difference
