i give permission for anyone to slap my face off IF I DONT demand POLAROIDS instead of settling for a bunch of decently shot, SUPER RETOUCHED pics of girls next time i schedule a shoot.  SHAME ON ME, I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN.  i recently did some testing with some girls from MM and other internet girls and i nearly lost my mind.  the shots online ARE NOT WHAT I SAW IN PERSON, and i dont think its right.  dont tell people you are a model, dont show people decent shots of yourself, and then show up looking like an old, SHOT OUT lady.  or, just ugly.  after scheduling hair and makeup, pulling from Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, scheduling private jewelers to come over, investing all of this time, and then you show up looking like ASS, its just un-fucking-believable to me.

OUT.

Just a pointer, I learned a long time ago not to shoot with any model that I have never met. Looks being the last reason. FWIW

Shame on you!

Couldn't you tell their images were tainted with Photoshop?

You should have known better!

Well, at least you'll never do it again... for your own sanity's sake...

Lesson learned for you hopefully...

Casting calls happen for a reason!

This is why I don't mind when a model has a couple [not 20] digicam shots in her port.  No offesne intended, but a lot of photographers are in loooooove with photoshop, sometimes to the exclusion of what the model actually looks like!

I can see where you're coming from.. I guess some people def. look better in photos than in real life, if you're a model, that's not necessarily a bad thing though... Because on the other hand, at almost ever shoot I've been to, the photog has told me I look even more beautiful in person... While I def. take the kind words as a compliment, it's kinda bad for me I would think, because it means that I don't always photograph well.  I  guess you can see both sides :]

I experienced a lot of that first-hand when casting for a green screen shoot in Los Angeles. Either the photos contain tons of makeup/photoshop or the photos were straight-up outdated!

Ugh, myboyfriend actually. Why? From   what I heard a poloaroid is just a polaroid.I went to Click wit all my polaroids and they picked this one out of the bunch cause they said it was the most clear.Don't think they really care how its cropped as long as they can see my face clearly.

^^^^ that's why.  yes it's just a polaroid, but it still needs to be composed half way decently.

Well Click didn't complain. Again, like most people always say on the forums: Don't ask us the questions: ask the agencies and they'll let you know what they want.  And they picked this one from the bunch I had even though the others were centered.

if you went through all that trouble to prepare for the shoot, why not call an agency?

but i don't disagree with your frustration.

OUT.

I had a shoot awhile back, I had several models come as I was unsure who would show up. The one who seemed to have the most experience from her Bio came looking like death warmed over. Had been out all night (her words) hair looked like dead worms and skin like leather. Another one smelled so bad my stylist nearly puked on her. Another showed up with one shirt besides the one he was wearing but was a hard worker so it was sort of Ok. I had asked them each to bring a suit as the idea for the shoot required it.
Another showed up with a pile of rags in a bag that didn't even fit her,old leather face.
So out of six I had one who was perfect, one who smelled like a Bangkok hooker on Sunday morning, one with no clothes, one who was beautiful, hard working and pleasant one who was just old and tired as well as un-prepared, and the othger and last was beautiful but had no clothes that I asked for and had to leave to soon. But hey the one who was on (male) was so on it made up for it all.
I feel your pain OP.

When a client is involved ior a shoot is important, why skimp on a model? That's a pretty key piece of the puzzle. Agency girls or meet them beforehand. Do your homework.

well,
i have been very lucky.
i only have worked with girls from next, wilhelmina, karin, etc.
so,
honestly,
i just assumed, HA!, that the chicks were going to look like their pics.

just wanted to share about the nutty experience,
and,
to all the fake and frauds out there,
who "THINK" they are models,
YOU ARE IN SOME MAJOR DENIAL.

if i put the before pics up,
i think everyone would have a heart attack.

these girls had
*GIANT NOSES
*TERRIBLE SKIN FROM HEAD TO TOE
*GREASY HAIR
*TERRIBLE HANDS AND FEET
*GIANT INSANE FANG TEETH
*SOUR ATTITUDES
*COMPLETE MUMMYS

now that it's over,
i can laugh about it,
but while i was retouching,
i was kicking myself in my fat ass.
: )

I wish more models would have one photo like that in their ports. Man the Photoshop is outta control!

BTW, I even like that it's off centered. Your body is on a 'third.'

Ok. So I sent this pic out Monday and got a call yesterday to meet wit a local agency on Friday. And here I was worried that they'd care it was off-centered. smile Other models: take the chance! I was so worried of failing that I wasn't even gonna try. I say at least send out your polaroid guys! Ya neva know.

Now off to Model Matters to get some insight on what the hell should I wear to thsi meeting.

It just needs some cropping. Maybe airbrush out the towel rack.

shit. When I have ton of makeup and they photoshop the hell outta me, I cannot recognize myself and i look 20 years older. I mean, the photo may be cool and all, but who is that girl? I also noticed that all photographers have a very diffeent style shooting and after work. Some really putting a lot of stuff on our face and some just like us bare and true. I guess it depends. Personally I like when I can reconize myself and my friends can too.

Always a good idea for a meet and greet, and a test shoot. Always suggest an escort, and if the escort looks better, shoot her instead.

Always? I don't have time for meet and greets and I don't have patience for escorts. Girl shows up, I take pictures, girl goes away, I edit and retouch, send someone the pictures, everyone's happy or it doesn't work and you start over again the next day anyway.

This is exactly the reason I will not shoot a model I have never seen face to face. If a model is not prepared to spend time on go-sees then she does not deserve the work. Too many models have too many photoshoped images in their portfolios. Photoshop is a tool that should be used by clients in post production only.

That would be cool if it always worked that way. If it does for you, more power to you.

Agreed.  I've often been told I look different in pictures.  Some side of me comes out that you don't see with the eye.  I don't really get it but I'll take it, hehe.  And fwiw I always go to a shoot with hair and makeup ready to start I just think that's the professional way to go; unless a MUA and hair stylist are involved.
