ishutter photography wrote: What's the big deal with tagging 18+ on someone's image? It's not like the mods are using magic markers to draw panties and bras over your pics. There are models here that are under 18 and if that's the least that the mods can do without offending the "artist" then power to them! Lighten up people. What ishutter said! ^^^

I know, 18 is the government's rule, not the moderators, but isn't it just ridiculous to think that on day 364 of your 17th year you're innocent and vulnerable and must be protected from ugly sights then on day 365 you're all grown up and ready to deal with the nasty reality that people have nipples and genitals? Even the moderators must conform to the silliness of a puritan society. Yep, I don't want to start details but I was active as a teenager... way before the "age of consent" and it never harmed me... but then... I didn't grow up here. The problem is, as you pointed out, the puritan heritage of this country... or how they call it... "values" as if those were the ultimate values in the world. See, for me as a moderator, I am very much concerned that this site is staying out of trouble with the law, so that it can grow and be a powerful resource to the fashion/modeling community. Because of my own experience, I know that most underage teenagers, not only already see naked bodies, but many, if not most of them(!) are actually sexually very active. Yet, we have to pretend that they are not... and that we have to "protect" them from images of the nude body. Hey, in Germany, we have a much clearer definition of the term pornography, which includes the depiction and close up of aroused sexual organs and the mutual penetration of thereof. A nude woman, spread eagle, with her thumb in her mouth is not considered pornography. So, because the "definition" in the US is "I know pornography when I see it", we moderators have to "protect", well... probably more the site from overzealous puritans, than minors who know what "the deal" is.

Mods are mods and have their own tendencies, and if we, as the ones being moderated, do not approve of a draconian mod, we either, Complain until the Mod is removed, Quit posting completely (which makes this site less attractive) or Leave all together which is starting to happen already. I think the complaints I've recieved for being too lenient still outnumber the number of complaints I get for being too "draconian." The bottom line is, no matter what the moderators do or don't do (any moderator) someone will find a reason to bitch about it.

As much as I complained about you to you, I never once thought you draconian

Maybe I am not understanding, but what is the point of this? On my screen I see the entire image and the only thing different is a tag that says 18+. (It took entirely too long to find the + sign...) I am still able to open it. Is this just used as a disclaimer or are some people unable to view it?

Non-members and those remaining members under 18 are unable to view it. The purpose of this is two-fold a) A lot less non-members will spend time cruising the site looking for booooobies, thus saving bandwidth. 2) If anyone pisses and moans about the site allowing images unseemly for children's eyes, we can say, hey, them childrens can't see the unseemly stuff here anyway. They have to go to another of the 8 billion sites on the interweb for that.

If you're underage, or come into the site without signing in, 18+ thumbs are replaced with a warning. This is to keep the site from becoming an all-out eyeball fest for the juvenile after school crowd. That said, the 2 images I have in my folder self-marked 18+ are very tame in comparison to most, but if I direct a family member or friend to view my portfolio here they might get an altother wrong impression! But so what.

Use it to your advantage! Mark ALL your photos as '18+' (even if they're G rated)! You'll get more hits than ever imagined, in no time at all! (That's one of the marketing ploys of DVD manufacturers. Come out with an "unrated" version of a movie, which isn't any different than the original except that they've added another line into the movie).

When I visit the site as just a visitor I get the 18+ warning, oh well, simply means I have to log in, then I get to see tits and ass!!! WoooWhooooo! I'm not 18 so i'm not really concerned about what I can't see if I were less than 18 years old. It did seem weird that for a minute it turned into a battle of the MODS against the worlds but what the heck it's the internet. I submitted my name to be a moderator, didn't get chosen, oh well, life goes on! I wasn't attracted to the ad for the position because I wanted to run the boards. I was more attracted to helping this site keep spammers, non active, and non serious (is that a term) people from taking up valuable resources. I'm sure once this place starts flipping a dollar, those things won't much matter if the membership numbers keep rising, but I could be wrong?
