When I bet 99% of them only have one.....Hell I could do the same thing and call it "Jay Farrell photography studios" but that still doesn't fool people when they come here and see that I just have the one studio.....small but proud wink Is that marketing technique really that effective?

Is this the best topic that you can think of to start a new thread about?

Dude, you need to get out more.

Hey, if the "You don't need a job, you've got Audrey" post can have 35,600 replies, I think this post is fine.

Why the hostility?

To answer the OP's question...I don't know how effective it is, but I think people are scrambling to have as much legitimacy as they can muster on the internet.  It's all about window-dressing.  Get the customer in the store, and then work the sale.

I was actually laughing when I typed it.

I don't...feel..."hostile".

I'm actually in a really good mood, I got a raise last week!

Congrats.  Unfortunately, it literally takes an act of Congress to get my raise.  :-(

Since I chose *studios* instead of *studio*, when I set up my business name and website, I will let you know my reasoning.

When someone uses a name like blah-blah studio, it apparently groups you in with vendors who market "Instant Photography Studio, only $499," and such. Since my intent was not to sell equipment, it seemed to be less confusing.

Because even if you only have one building, you're gonna have more than one room. "Here we have the Senior Portrait studio, and back over here we have the commode studio."

Yea that's pretty much it,
Multiple spaces that allow for more that one photographer to work in the building at a time.
In my Building we have three spaces for two photographers.
The Sanctuary, the Balcony and the Attic Studio.

So... Bethesda Studios

Nah,

There's plenty o' people that don't have any studio.
I was actually wondering about that the other day.  A guy used the name "... Studios", yet none of the pictures in his portfolio were studio shots.

Seen a few more of 'em like that around here too!

Of course, I know in the esoterical sense you can say "the WORLD is my studio"... but that'll just make me wanna gag.

So... Bethesda Studios

Ditto.. my thoughts exactly. It's not a "marketing technique". I'm not trying to fool anyone. Plus it just rolls off the tounge so much better. smile BTW.. each space has multiple shooting areas so there are actually more than three Studios.

But the more interesting question is why "Bethesda"? hahaha

I applied for the Studios moniker but was told that I had to have a marketing department before the permit would be issued. I have a casting call out for a
marketing department, but am waiting on replies.

And remember all your images must be shot by torch lighting... no strobes or natural light permitted!!!!

Your little Scion only gets 33? My Acura does better than 40 on the highway. I was grateful for that when I drove over 3,000 miles round trip to the Grand Canyon with gas over $3.00 a gallon.

LOL,
True that..
I use studios because I am located on a movie lot. The stages are a part of the services I can provide to my cliets. I am not bound only by the location my studio space provides..I actualy have several stages I can use for a client on a big enough budget.

Thus Studios..

Probably cause it's a box shape, and tachs out kinda high on the highway, but still that's decent enough smile

Yeah.  Some people just gotta represent themselves as something bigger than they are.  I was always tempted to do that back when I operated Krueger International Worldwide Global Media Industries.

I actually think that for photography it isn't the best choice in regards to marketing.  Everyone wants to be special, and whe people go to photogropher they are looking for theirs ONLY, images that wouldn't look like anything else.

When there are Mr. John's studioS, it makes an impression of franchaising, and gives it this McDonald's feeling.

A photo studio, should be like this one special cofee shop you go to... not like the cofee costs $5, it's just that it's special...

Some things sound better plural.  Studios sounds better than studio.

i thought this was going to be some nitpicking about Latin-derived words, and how the plural of "studio" should actually be "studiae" or something.
like people who get all huffy like "it's not STADIUMS, it's STADIA"(insert indignant eye-rolling here).

that said, writers need to remember that the word "media" is already plural and takes its modifying pronouns and verbs accordingly.

My company uses studiosin its name, lol.  We don't even have one, 82 of us work out of our vans and shoot only on locations in 12 states.
