I'm tired of sending things to the lab..
What is a good printer to start out with that won't cost me a fortune?

I'm planning to get the Epson Stylus Photo R1800.  B&H is selling it for $499.  Their 1280 printer is a bit cheaper.  I want to get a good printer and not spend too much also.

I have the r1800. It does a beautiful job! Ink is a little pricey but I get mine from atlex.com and it is not too bad. Beautiful results though. I had the R800 but got the R1800 so I can print up to 11x14's.

Thanks for the review.

I have the Epson R2400 and like it a lot. The colors are outstanding. The prints on luster really pop.

However, I'm going in the opposite direction. It's more than $100 for a full set of ink. That's 100 prints from a good local lab, but I'm fortunate enough to be in NYC. I just walk/bike/blade over to the lab and pick it up in 24 hours. Actually 150 prints after the cost of paper. It's a no-brainer for me.

This is a good recommendation as well as the more expensive Photo 2400.

FYI, the 1800 can print directly onto printable CD/DVDs
