I was just discussing this at dinner tonight.

Taking photos on the street or in general is changing all the time.
Much different than years ago.

Vancouver.. shoot to your heart's content.

The thing I find funny about Quebec is that they've isolated themselves so much that you constantly see things like:

McDonald's Coupon:
Buy 2 get a free sundae*

Speedy Autoglass:
Free 21 point inspection with oil change*

TV Commercial:
Try our product for 30 days for free! *

And the '*' always says "Except in Quebec"

I chuckle at this.  But I'm a jerk west coaster.  smile

Agreed.

Is it me, or did this foolishness start with 9/11, or the explosion of digital imaging, or both?

Much before those points.  Society is evolving,  all around the world.
Even taking pictures in secluded third world countries is a much different thing today then it was even 10 years ago.

People know that there is often nothing in it for them but ridicule or profit by someone else on how they live, work, eat, play, what clothes they wear, and so on.

25 years ago people did not even ask what is this being used for much in America.
Know you here that in third world countries off the beaten path not visited often by tourists.
