Well, I figured this might throw some gas on the "nudity/porn/fashion" fire:

French clothing store pilots porn ads 11:03AM
A French clothing company is out to prove the surprising insight that sex sells and that on the Internet it is possible to show more sex - and presumably shift more product.
According to a report in the LA Times Shai clothing has started showing French porn stars cavorting in the buff on a circular bed in a bid to interest the punters in £60 T-shirts.

The ads are also interactive. It is possible to stop the action to stop and examine the content of the advert. No, not like that. By rolling the mouse pointer over the actors' clothing in the Shai clip the dedicated fashionista can pull up a chart with details of prices and sizes.

Although online porn purveyors have used explicit content in their ads since the dawn of the Internet age, the Shia ads are seen as the first time a mainstream retailer has used pornographic clips to attract the attention of customers. The move is also made possible by the relatively unregulated Internet to use this kind of content, which is not possible in mainstream media such as TV or cinema ads.

So yep, it looks like the lines are blurring ever further.

They came up in the press again recently...

It's definitely hardcore - but it's still successful marketing.

How many Americans knew about Shai before the site? Not many... the point of the "Sexpacking.com" site isn't to sell the clothes, it's about expanding the brand. They're probably losing market share to H&M and this is their way of trying to jump ahead.

Grade A publicity stunt -

Just came back from a few weeks in Europe ... softcore/nudity/sexually charged ads abound on the television there right along with mainstream type ads. I'm sure the European membership of MM is more amused by their American compadres' astonishment over ads like Shia. It's not hardcore, but I have seen ads with "implied hardcore" ( tongue ). No biggie, they tell me.

The curious thing about it is that during a conversation with my fiancee's 16 yr old neice, she thinks that european advertising is staid and boring and that many ads in the USA seem much more innovative and interesting. Watching her and her 12 yr old brother watch TV, the nude ads don't seem to even register, or at least, they don't appear to warrant any sort of extraordinary attention.

You're just going to have to work on your focus.

I'm not so much astonished
I mainly threw this out because of the comments you always hear about "mainstream fashion places will never use porno stars to sell clothes" and "nudes will hurt you" and some of the other comments...I don't think this ad's really signifigant, I just wanted to see what sort of response it'd get if I threw this out
I figured I'd cause a little trouble lol
