Here's the usual announcment.  "Hi I'm a starving student who thought modeling would pay my way through school.  I have no experience but I ask top dollar and I bring my manager/boyfriend who'll stand by and intimidate you".  Uhhh get a clue girls...it takes time, talent and skill to be a good model.  To be a great model you need real commitment.  Uh or maybe to be committed.  No...strike that.  I've gotten so tired of the ProAmateurs I don't use any of the models on this site anymore.

I'm with you, Fred--it is very hard to separate the wheat from the chaff, on MM.  There are a few nuggets, but the ore is, definitely, low grade.

Here's a good one:
I got a response on a collaborative TFP initiative in which the "model" graciously offered to reduce her rate to only $100 per hour with a three hour minimum!!  My response:  Wow, only $100 an hour for collaborative work, and I was willing to do TFP.  So, I quoted her my reduced consulting rate of $350 per hour, subtracted her fee of $100 per hour, multiplied by the three-hour minimum, and offered to work with her for only a total of $750 for three hours.  She got all huffy, and told me never to contact her again.  Right!  I was going to chase after her??!!  Not a chance!

You don't use any models on this site, but you use the forums to bitch about the models you don't use.

That sounds like a productive way to spend your time.

ROFL!  I think all these "models" with little to no experience and average looks demanding $100 or more an hour are assuming all photographers on this site are GWCs who just want to see a girl's naughty bits.  Hell, if I wanted to see naked girls, I could go to the local gentleman's club and spend a lot less than $100 an hour - and I'd get a lap dance or two to boot!

Well what is your work like Fred? Is it of the level where a model would or could use it in their book? Or is it just that same old high school year book photography that so many people on here who call themselves photographers put out? You have to have something to trade sport..fair is fair. I find MM to be very good for finding great talent and brilliant people, who want to work hard and create beautiful useful images. It may be what you are bringing to the table that sets the models fee.

I'm not a model photographer, and will be the first to admit it.

I'm not about to pay good money to shoot models who may or may not show up, for work that I can't use anyway wink

I'll work with models if I have the time, and want to just break away from the day to day routine, but please.

Don't ask me for money, when you have 4 images in your port, that were taken by your BF with a camera phone or some cam stuck on a monitor of a PC ..

DUH ?????????????????????????????

Coughs and splutters my coffee over the monitor..
Hooboy...lowgrade? Good grief!
What are models now? Eggs?
I can assure you both, there is a high calibre of models on this site.

CJ, definitely, is one of the nuggets, mum!  There is, however, a lot of chaff obscuring the wheat.

Oh and maybe you guys ought to try creating a photograph of something other than just her/their tits and ass. Also how would you pay someone who doesnt show up?
I get the creeps looking at some of the photographers work here and I am a man. Some of these photographers quite simply SUK,just my view.

I've got no problem with models who have high expectations.  Needing money is no crime.

I don't pay models, but if the perfect girl was out there and needed money AND I had to fly to Prague to work with her, I would.  Some of them will get lucky, and some won't.

The market will handle this without us complaining.

If you don't like what the site has to offer, leave. No offense, but it does seem like a huge waste of time to make posts like this to stir the pot when you have no intention of utilizing the site for the purpose it was intended. Not to mention you waste the time of everyone who bothers to contact you from here to work with you. Personally, I think you're missing out on some great people. But that's your perogative.

Now, why do you wanna go and call me out like that??? I had to go and change my entire ABOUT ME section now, dude.... sheesh. At least I'm honest. And modeling wasn't paying my way through school. Exotic dancing was doing that for me. Modeling was what my boyfriend/manager wanted me to do so I can get pretty hot pictures he could use when I wasn't around. And I wouldn't shoot with you anyways, dude, cause I only shoot with guys who shoot just to see chicks topless. Only they can appreciate the talents I have to offer.

(PS: FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH ME....THIS WAS A JOKE, K? PLEASE DO NOT INUNDATE MY INBOX WITH "INTERESTED" OR SHOOT REQUESTS)

Dawn danced for me the weekend we shot. She's pretty good. I had a pole set up just for her visit. Those photos will not be posted on MM though. smile Those are private stock.

I never signed on to MM to actually find a model. If I do, that's cool but mostly here to exchange ideas, see what's current, bitch, and make friends and conections because you never know when you may need a friend somewhere.

I have found new friends on MM: models, photographers and mua's. I have found many amateurs to professionals willing to work with me on a TFT basis. Those that have had little if any experience have quoted rates higher than some of the more well known experienced models here.

I simply say thank you for your time and hope that individual has a day job...

I just ran into that same situation.  I contacted a model on here about a small shoot for a newly formed women's  clothing line and her 1/2 day rate was outrageous!  $700 indeed!  Her port only had a few pics and nothing professional.  Hell her profile even stated that she had no experience.  Sheesh!

There are no salary caps on MM...  She has the right to ask for whatever financial compensation she feels is appropriate for any job offered to her.  You, in turn, have the right (and perhaps in this case, the duty) to tell her that her demands are unreasonable and, to bugger off.
That's what's nice about this site:  you can participate directly or just remain tangential... the choice is yours.

Always one to swim against the tide...
I used to not understand those models who ask for cash with little to show.
Now I do.  In many cases models won't be able to use what a TFP shoot
gives her no matter how good it is.  You could be Avedon and it won't
make here 5'9" and pretty or under 21.  If she is located in
Inthemiddleofnowhere, MI. it won't matter because there are few to no agencies
near her.  So any model that feels she should charge, should.  The question
is who pays.  In most cases almost no one.  Would it help her to have really good
shots in her profile or book?  I've noticed the same horny comments from photographers who know better.  The basic ideal is to show yourself in as little as
possible or in a thong and its a view fest.  The model could look like a bull dog
but as long as she's showing lots of skin she'll get lots of love.  What is it my
younger friends say?  Don't hate the player, hate the game.

If I see an obvious newbee setting high rates with web cam pics in her port I often assume she is actually an escort and move on.
I know of 2 "models" in my area, neither of which is on MM (yet) who also run ads on escort listing sites. Oddly enough the rates they quote for escort services are exactly what they quote for modeling.
From talking to a few photog friends scattered accross the country thats actually fairly common.
