or is the grass greener on the other side.

I long to go to SF to shoot.   I know why!
SF photogs want to come to Vegas to shoot. why?

Familiar; "that model is so cool , I wish I lived there", yea , but  I live here and I run like hell when I see her.

I have never had a visiting model flake - maybe it's the expense of the trip - that causes visitors to be reliable.
maybe local models flake because they can see you the next day, the next week.

new name: location adultery - I want your model.

I would recommend Antietam [mm #15155] without reservation or hesitation.  She's a true muse in every way.  How she landed in a place like Pittsburgh Pensyl-tucky is beyond me.

It pains me every time I get an offer from a photographer in LA. I can only afford to fly down there every once in a while, and I don't drive so it might as well be 1000 miles away...

Yeah, you got all that right! Why are, say, even half of the best photographers/jobs clear to one coast or the other?

Why does everybody want to come to LA?

We do movies here--not photographs.

It's not a total disadvantage being in the midwest. The bright side is that you're never too terribly far from any of the major cities, so you can fly fairly inexpensively pretty much anywhere.

Heck!  Ya oughta live out here in the middle of nowhere.  How many models on MM are listed in a 50 mile radius of your zip code?   I find 21 on the search, and several of them have inactive profiles with no activity in months.  Fortunately for me, the active ones are pretty great. :-)

As a Brit an American friend once explained that the states in the middle were simply to hold the coasts together.  Seemed logical to me.  smile

In Adrienne's case, many of the best glamour photographers are in LA, so I don't blame her.

I've also noticed that when photographers from distant lands do decide to visit California, they usually go to LA.

Mountain tops always look great in the distance, even when they are spewing. But what of the pebbles under our feet that makes it all possible...

Good to know. smile The great thing about living the the Inland Empire is that I'm an hour or two away from almost everywhere in SoCal.

Business has me stuck here; not desire or artistic expression.

L.A. has Star, Ravenslaughter and several other art photographers I would die to work with.

San Fran does as well.
However, NYC has so much talent, when I have traveled the last year, I usually have gone there. I also go to Atlanta, am thinking about the Monterey Bay area, and TX and AZ have some good workshop photographers I would love to work with.  Las Vegas has....Max V and Unomundo, but Max comes to Chicago a lot too....

I'm convinced that lusting after far-away models and photographers is an essential part of the MM experience.

I like that area and the coast going south. Its not SF, but I like the vibe.

Since you are so NOSY. here are my choices of places to live.
1) SF..if I can afford.
2) Toronto ..just move south for the 3 months every winter
3) Monterrey
4) FL..Sarasota or east Coast south of Daytona.

Notice the theme; water, water , everywhere.

Sounds like Vegas is getting to you.

You know, I'm just finishing up a guidebook to Florida.

Yes there are some models I’d like to shoot with, but at the present time, it’s not possible so we’ll wait…
I’ve shot with a couple of models that were visiting from other States to a few hundred miles away that contacted me before they arrived which was a pleasant surprise.

As it stands, I have a very full plate shooting what’s in front of me with 11 burlesque troupes and all the local bands I can handle, plus throw in the occasional fetish fashion show and see no end in sight.

We're hoping to shoot when she can get to Seattle. We've been talking for several months now. I'm glad she was able to work with you. smile
