Up 'n Coming Cliche... MASKS !
Yes folks , I have seen the future and Uncle Mikey is proud to announce the newest "rose petals", "angel wings" or "belt around the chest" overdone theme to come.... Models wearing Masks..... feather masks.. Mardi Gras masks.. etc... already cropping up on many a port recently.. it will soon be sweeping the photographic nation... Think about it... it is an interesting theme (til it gets to be overdone) and it will.. - 10 dollars for a mask instead of a 100 dollar MU job.... great for us cheap ass photogs... - models that want to do nudies but cant be identified for whateva reason... slap on a mask and get nekkid !.. woo hoo... and also create the air of mystery.. ohhh my... im tingling all over.. - "butterface models" (Suzy has a nice body.... but her face !") can now slap on a mask to cover facial deformities and rake in the cash.. now anyone with nice boobies and a booty can have modeling careers... - when Rhonda Raver shows up for a Sunday morning shoot hungover, eyes red and face puffy as a waterballoon... slap on a mask and start snappin pics.. yee haa.... also great for those hormonal acne outbreaks... here is one of about a thousand sites where you, can also jump on the mask bandwagon http://www.awnol.com/page/AWI/CTGY/FM/?source=google Happy Shopping and remember.. you heard it here first ! - Jul 27 06 12:15 am Link Jul 27 06 01:35 am Link Jul 27 06 01:51 am Link You must have been checking out some of your good friend Dan's work lately... You know that he is always on the cutting edge of things... Jul 27 06 04:58 am Link i guess that makes this a bad image (18+) http://www.stuartphotography.com/2006/b … 1-copy.jpg It's been done for years. It's just new to your eyes. Jul 27 06 06:26 am Link Capt Stu Beans wrote: that image is not bad at all.. its quite nice actually.. not sayin using masks is bad pics.... just that soon it will be overdone and the trendy thing to do.. Jul 27 06 07:03 am Link yeah...butterface models rejoice. post-mask cliche: paper bag. Jul 27 06 07:05 am Link Capt Stu Beans wrote: I like it. I like the choice of the sad mask combined with the lighting for an overall sad mood. Jul 27 06 08:10 am Link There is no such thing as a butter face. Photographers and artists aren't supposed to be blind. Jul 27 06 08:15 am Link Bob Randall Photography wrote: Are you kidding? They're some of the most blind. You aren't, though. That's why I like you. (Well that and you being a superb photographer and all.) Jul 27 06 08:18 am Link Obsessing about cliche's is cliche around here. WINDOWS TO THE SOUL EDIT: oops ... some people are already saying this: https://www.modelmayhem.com/posts.php?thread_id=63931 Great minds think alike Jul 27 06 08:28 am Link I like masks Jul 27 06 08:56 am Link I dunno, I like Masks too... Jul 27 06 09:06 am Link Masks?? Darn.. I thought I had it wrong... oh well.. I still like her without the mask as well.. Jul 27 06 09:13 am Link Weird. No? Masks are so 2005. Jul 27 06 10:07 am Link Brian Ziff wrote: brian is really seeing into the future.. a true visionary ! Jul 27 06 12:01 pm Link Does this mean I am a visionary? I have a box on my head....definitely post mask! Also, I went to Maxwell St. Market and they have all these really cool really creepy pretty cheap mexican fighting masks....haven't seen very many shoots utilizing them. Am I allowed to do a mexican fighting mask without it being seen as a total cliche? Jul 27 06 12:03 pm Link Lapis wrote: Only if you wear them on the back of your head, and don't even thing about masking the crotch cause that's already been done. Jul 27 06 12:07 pm Link Lapis wrote: yes lapis.. you are the Nostrodamus of the MM world.. far far ahead of your time.. Jul 27 06 12:18 pm Link Bob Randall Photography wrote: So, would it be cliche to 'box my box' instead of throwing a mask on it? I think it would be cool to steal one of those real old school chastity belts with teeth from a museum and wear one of those for a shoot....with a mexican fighting mask....talk about creepy! Jul 27 06 12:21 pm Link *yawn* did this in 1999, exhibited twice, moved on. And I'm not telling you what I'm working on next Jul 27 06 12:25 pm Link Any type of prop or look is limited only by the artist's imagination. If someone looks at all shots with masks the same way and without intuition, then many more things will reveal themselves as cliche. This is not something new. There have been mask images done for decades, but if you isolate yourself to this website, then you may not know the extent of the mask in art. Just as plain, classical nudes have been one of art's most popular subject, the subject has not become cliche due to the different perspectives of artists the world over. I use masks for anonymity (models can elect to reveal themselves) and mystery. My images are not cheaply done and the masks are part of elegant expression. Some might also say that slapping Kodak Gem Airbrush and other filters on an image are beyond cliche, but I guess it's how you use those, too. Jul 27 06 12:39 pm Link Fotticelli wrote: talk about scarring a kid for life Jul 27 06 12:43 pm Link I'm sick of them as well. I originally did my avatar in the late 90's, um, about 8 years ago.... I hadnt seen it before that but its all I see now. Feathers, YUCK, again, been there done that. I HATE HATE HATE doing stuff I have seen before. There is nothing worse than taking an idea already done and not doing it better....if you are going to copy anything you have to make it better or dont do it. Jul 27 06 12:49 pm Link ACTUALLY, I have been wanting to shoot in one of Judith's masks for YEARS. http://www.thuntek.net/mandala/leopard/ … ragon.html Jul 27 06 01:56 pm Link There is a TON of money to be made in shooting cliche's for the typical woman who wants a private portfolio. THEN, you put that money into your photography business, or new equipment, etc. Chiche's are my friend! Jul 27 06 04:51 pm Link I guess it's like any other cliche....if done well, then you don't even say "Oh Sweet Lord, not another one of those shots..." One or two posted here pass the test, even if I don't like the shots, they're unique and done well. But then, I also am not a big Mardi Gras fan, so seeing those shots over and over is boring to me. Jul 27 06 07:39 pm Link If you hold it next to your face, does it count? Jul 27 06 07:55 pm Link And here I thought I was being cliche 2 1/2 years ago. http://www.longwatcher.com/images/20040 … 0_edit.jpg I did masks as a theme for a year long period, then moved on to Orientalist Theme (think Persia late 1800's), and now I am on swimsuits as the soon to be latest craze.
