I notice in a lot of image that the use wide angle lenses are being used.

Is this a trend?

Why are so many of you use WIDE Angle?

I use a 17-50/2.8 for coverage. I don't shoot many of the distorted angle shots, so maybe I don't count for this question.

It's hard to shoot with a telephoto in a telephone booth.

It has gone back and forth for as long as the lenses were made.
At times long lenses with blow out backgrounds are cool.
At other times it is the wide angle look.
As long as I have been around photography this has gone back and forth.
Some do it well.  Others do not.

My line.  Pay me now.

Some just suck.
What else is new?
People sucking is nothing new?
Plus It is the summer time.
Lots of time spent in cold water.
So the wide angle helps if you know what I mean.

Every image has its own style. In the same session I may use 17 to 300mm. From One light to 12 lights.
Don't get locked into anything.

Well, I think part of it is because for so long, wide-angle choices for digital cameras with crop factors were extremely limited. Most photographers didn't even have a true wide angle for their digital camera. As they became available and people picked them up, they started experimenting with them, and voila -- you see images from them.

Personally, I love the way a wide angle allows you to tell a story in a picture. Used properly, it gives a depth to the picture that is almost impossible to get with a normal or telephoto lens. I also like the distorted look it gives -- as an effect.

Rick Gargiulo, the staff photographer at The Saratogian newspaper in Saratoga Springs, NY, is master of using the wide-angle this way, and I love his work with it.

I've always been fond of my wide angle,
I like the perspective skew and depth of feild it gives in my work.
When I shot my color infrared project (in film)the 28mm rarely came off the camera,

I think a lot of young photographers are seeing things the same way I did,
and wide angle zooms are on almost every digital SLR being shipped.

Now I'm shooting different things and using normal to short-tele more,
Different projects different requierments.
