Baring those images that are intentionally soft or blurred, does anyone find that many images, seen in ports, are not tack sharp?  Are folks resizing for MM and not following their resize with some sharpening?  Just an observation.

Regards.

I've noticed this too.. perhaps it was intentional, laziness, negligence, image compression, or a combination of any/all of those factors. Sometimes I have to oversharpen my images before uploading to compensate for the compression which tends to make images softer.

Also remember about ignorance that one needs to resharpen after resampling...

That too, but I didn't want to come out and say it... I left it as a fuzzy gray area between laziness (I knew I was supposed to sharpen, but didn't feel like it) and negligence (huh? what'd I miss?)

MM does compress images significantly, though I can't blame them considering how much file space all the images must take up.

Compare this (69.7KB) -

To this (164KB) -

All the fine detail goes to mush, skin is blotching, tones are coming apart, etc.

It'd be nice if MM allowed linking to external images as an option to uploading.

MM destroys my images.  desaturation, softening, blurring, blotches, etc.

it's horrible.

I noticed some degradation of my pictures - bur hey it's an free site, with all the space needed... Even on payable sites there are some rules - small sizes, full compression...

maybe you should all just learn how to save for web and compensate accordingly

Your images are soft too.  It's the nature of the site.  I've also found that if i upload the same file multiple times it comes out looking different each time...

I have images that I've posted to OMP that are razor sharp and here they look like shit...

Wouldn't that negate the validity of image comments?

With an uploaded image, it can be assumed that the comments were meant for the image, since re-uploading deletes any comments.

If the image were externally linked, comments would end up being associated with images they were not intended for.

Easy answer: Build your own site, and link it from your portfolio.
