there is a restaurant, that has allowed me to post images of my work on their wall as a way to promote my business.  i walk in to the restaurant and i find another photographer has aligned my images with his business card.  i have seven 16x20 or larger images, that he is claiming  as his.

any takers on what i should do, besides going up side his head, which was my first thought.

any advice is appreciated.

It seems to me that the obvious first step would be to address the issue with the restaurant manager/owner. They should be able to control what is and isn't on their walls.

Remove his business cards and letting the place know about this? Otherwise, take your work out and show it somewhere else. It's not copyright infringement as he didn't copy your work. He was just being a dick, which unfortunately isn't a crime. However a good bitch-slap might put him in his place... Not that I advocate violence!

I dunno, maybe you should just threaten the hell out of him. Phone calls, emails, freaky letters. You could even leave a note on his windshield.

Or how about posting something of your own next to his business card. Like, "This guy is a lying theiving talentless bastard."

Hmmm, the business card thing just ain't copyright infringement, not in any way. What it is is an arsehole photographer trying to capitalize on your work nd marketing. Frankly, I would have more of an issue with the restaurant management allowing those cards to be placed and to remain. Please don't tell me they didn't notice!

My advice? Track him down and break his kneecaps. Or, use a red marker to note on each card that he is a fraud stealing your work and add your own card next to each one of his. Then make a serious complaint to the resturant management. Second choice, just take the freaking cads down and give him a call to let him know your thoughts about his ancestry. Then tell everyone you know in the business know what happened.

Final advice, next time find an art gallery to show your work.

Whatever you decide to do (in terms of staying there or going to another gallery) Iwould recommend approaching the photographer and asking them to not put their cards there. Communicate first; at least an attempt. If they refuse or are rude, post the persons name and information here so that we can publicly vilify him / her. The Photo community is very small and word gets around quick as to who is reputable and who is not.

And disreputable characters are not in business long...

Best of luck with the success of your work!

Bro . . . come on now. This a great opportunity to fuck with him. Have someone call him wanting to buy a print or two. Get a real hottie that acts like a bimbo but then meets him in person at the restaurant and GRILLS him on his techinique, intent, motivation. On and on. Torment the bastard. You get the idea.

Hey, I'm busy right nowz. What I would do is have someone call him offering to buy one or two of the prints had a really nice price and see what he says.
