If I had a choice I would not be dial-up.  Wooo to us who's only option is this snail form of internet connection.

I remember when the 300 baud modems came out.  They were so hot and people said it was more speed than anybody really needed.  Damn I'm old!

I still have a 1200 baud modem in my basement. But I love my cable broadband.

At the speed this site runs, I would rather slit my wrists in a tub of warm water. The long way, across is just a cry for help!

I can't seem find a cable/DSL modem with a parallel port to interface with my broke ass TI-99/4A (hey it was *really good* in its day)... so yeah unfortunately I'm still on dialup.

The groovy speech synthesizer keeps me entertained while I wait for downloads though.

I have dial-up, for one major reason:
I DON'T LIVE MY LIFE ONLINE.
For the amount I'd pay for it, I wouldn't get any major benefit from it. I am online maybe 30 minutes a day, but go for days without going online.
I practically lived online for a while when we first got this computer, and found it was really taking huge worthless chunks from my life.

That's all I can get at my location

Tried Charter and it was slower than dial up most of the day

Tried Direcway and it was still slower than dial up and they never could get it up to speed.

DSL is not in my area--I'm out in the country

This dial-up connection drives me crazy and I had even ordered the Verizon Online DSL kit, but I (and my dad) was unable to get it hooked up.  That'd be so cool to have an Internet connection as fast as my grandmom's.  She has AOL Broadband, so when I'm at her house I don't have to deal with web pages opening SLOOOWLY...25%.....30%.....etc., and it doesn't take me forever to e-mail photos.

Oh gosh sad I feel bad for those that are using dial-up. The site is slow enough without it.

When the site is slow broadband won't speed it up.

I went from old phone lines (connected at 14K) to 3 Meg cable.  Charter is my hero.

Yes, but even whe the site is slow it will probably still run faster than 56K where dial-up will always run at 36-56K.

I know of business men who might need to dial up fro various locations like hotels who just don't happen to have hi-speed connections....but in a home....why would anyone elect for dial-up when hi-speed is so inexpensive?  I think some people pay more for various site memberships (OMP...etc) than they do for hi-speed now. :-)

I am on dial-up as this is the only option here, however there is a bump in speed when a raccoon gets hit by lightning.

When MM is slow you are waiting for it to respond so it doesn't make much difference.

Remember the remote control the Flintstones had for their TV? Where they press a button and that bird/pteradactyl would fly over to the TV set and manually change the channel so the monkey would change whatever he was broadcasting?

That's the kind of modem I have... except the birdie hasn't come back yet and the monkey's getting restless.

The price is too high for high speed connections here. 30 bucks a month no thanks.   I like my 9.95 Net Zero Hi speed(for dial up) . If they get it down to around 16 or so I will be jumping over.

Yes the dial up is annoying , but i can live with it a bit longer. I still am miffed about how i can't seem to kept my land line phone bill under 40 a month. VERY reliable for voice though. I have had my current phone number and only had to call for service twice in the last 14 yrs.

ps. REMINDER  Had a couple power outages in the last few years and cordless telephones Don't WORK  without a power supply. Good idea to keep a corded phone in your house whether it be hooked up or not.
