Jul 15 06 06:02 pm Link I remember when the 300 baud modems came out. They were so hot and people said it was more speed than anybody really needed. Damn I'm old! Jul 15 06 06:03 pm Link LarryB wrote: I still have a 1200 baud modem in my basement. But I love my cable broadband. Jul 15 06 06:14 pm Link *in a valley girl voice* "That is like soo 1999* Jul 15 06 06:18 pm Link DJHphoto wrote: At the speed this site runs, I would rather slit my wrists in a tub of warm water. Jul 15 06 11:00 pm Link I'm not...but sometimes on MM it feels as tho I am. Jul 15 06 11:01 pm Link I can't seem find a cable/DSL modem with a parallel port to interface with my broke ass TI-99/4A (hey it was *really good* in its day)... so yeah unfortunately I'm still on dialup. The groovy speech synthesizer keeps me entertained while I wait for downloads though. Jul 15 06 11:04 pm Link Browsing/Photoshop/Gaming Machine - FiOS, 15meg download, 5 meg upload Home Computer, (email only) - 56K, slow as dirt, but gets the job done Jul 15 06 11:05 pm Link I have dial-up, for one major reason: I DON'T LIVE MY LIFE ONLINE. For the amount I'd pay for it, I wouldn't get any major benefit from it. I am online maybe 30 minutes a day, but go for days without going online. I practically lived online for a while when we first got this computer, and found it was really taking huge worthless chunks from my life. Jul 15 06 11:07 pm Link That's all I can get at my location Tried Charter and it was slower than dial up most of the day Tried Direcway and it was still slower than dial up and they never could get it up to speed. DSL is not in my area--I'm out in the country Jul 15 06 11:09 pm Link Dial up is the only option here. Jul 15 06 11:12 pm Link *raises hand* All my friends make fun of me for it. Jul 16 06 03:34 am Link This dial-up connection drives me crazy and I had even ordered the Verizon Online DSL kit, but I (and my dad) was unable to get it hooked up. That'd be so cool to have an Internet connection as fast as my grandmom's. She has AOL Broadband, so when I'm at her house I don't have to deal with web pages opening SLOOOWLY...25%.....30%.....etc., and it doesn't take me forever to e-mail photos. Jul 16 06 03:40 am Link We use dial up as well. Jul 16 06 03:40 am Link I am still on dial up here in the uk,sites like this one not to bad loading up,it them flash sites that take all day. Alan. Jul 16 06 03:43 am Link dial up at home and wireless broadband away from home. Jul 16 06 03:59 am Link I went from old phone lines (connected at 14K) to 3 Meg cable. Charter is my hero. Jul 16 06 06:59 am Link Jerry Nemeth wrote: Yes, but even whe the site is slow it will probably still run faster than 56K where dial-up will always run at 36-56K. Jul 16 06 07:07 am Link I am on dial-up as this is the only option here, however there is a bump in speed when a raccoon gets hit by lightning. Jul 16 06 07:11 am Link Apfel Photography wrote: When MM is slow you are waiting for it to respond so it doesn't make much difference. Jul 16 06 05:07 pm Link Apfel Photography wrote: Some of us don't have a choice. Wish we did. Jul 16 06 05:13 pm Link Gotta love COMCASTIC!! Lolz! Jul 19 06 12:09 am Link Remember the remote control the Flintstones had for their TV? Where they press a button and that bird/pteradactyl would fly over to the TV set and manually change the channel so the monkey would change whatever he was broadcasting? That's the kind of modem I have... except the birdie hasn't come back yet and the monkey's getting restless. ![]() Jul 19 06 04:01 am Link I would sell my own plasma twice a week to keep my DSL. Jul 19 06 11:09 pm Link Apfel Photography wrote: The price is too high for high speed connections here. 30 bucks a month no thanks. I like my 9.95 Net Zero Hi speed(for dial up) . If they get it down to around 16 or so I will be jumping over. Jul 19 06 11:24 pm Link William Herbert wrote: ps. REMINDER Had a couple power outages in the last few years and cordless telephones Don't WORK without a power supply. Good idea to keep a corded phone in your house whether it be hooked up or not.
