Its the title of a book I was required to read in one of my B&W classes, but not sure of your question?

Not really a question as more of a way to talk about it.

Zen and photography, not the book which I have never read.  Was it any good?

Not strictly Zen but worth the price of a click.

What is the worth of a click?  Seems like it might be pretty valuable to me...

I think zen, like science doesn't deny god(s) existence it just doen't require it. I think that MM could be described as a religion if you look at the 3rd definition from the Oxford dictionary smile

From Oxford Dictionary

religion

  • noun 1 the belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods. 2 a particular system of faith and worship. 3 a pursuit or interest followed with devotion.

  — ORIGIN originally in the sense life under monastic vows: from Latin religio ‘obligation, reverence’.

Yes, it's just not a theism.

I often consider the hard line atheist to be religious fanatics.

historically zen is a japanese religion/philosophy derived from a c ombination thats about a thousand years old or more of buddhism and taoism called chan in china. there are both a religion and a philosophy of taoism, the religion is an ancient animist pagan faith with hundreds of godheads and beliefs concerning improving ones daily lot and fortune. the philosophy of taoism is very rigorous and has no god whatsoever, but a belief in natural forces and a way, the tao, of being and behaving . the word belief is foreign to these chinese roots, and even buddhism has no god per se, no personality to worship or pray for help to. buddha has been worshipped as a god but was human and achieved bliss and an escape from the cycle of reincarnation. neither "religion" is totally separated at any point except in highly devout sects with specific beliefs. eastern religions are not seen as separate and one or none practices like christian sects. zen can shape and form ones behavior and goals and higher mind but there is no god there. atall! which is wonderful.
its not a theism. its a way of believing/living.
the middle path.

There is some symbiosis between zen archery and Cartier-Bresson's "decisive moment.  I'm not a practitioner, however.

First realize that you are nothing, then you will be everything...

Not that I understand, but I do understand.

By forgetting, you remember...

Look for the photo and its not there, stop looking and you will see it.

i think about that theism question a lot... whats a religion without a god, and isnt that just better all round? i cant go the god route, but buddhism or zen or taoism makes so much sense. maybe its like art. my shrink always said art is my religion and leaves no room for other stuff.

The concept of Dao is comparable to the concept of God...

Its an unexplainable force that is all around...
the wind that moves the trees-something you know is there but can not see but you see the action.
