I have been drawing all my life and started taking photography a bit more seriously recently. It got me excited and with newer cameras I am now sorting through a hundreds of pictures a week. At the rate this goes, I am going to like it smile Yet, I have no intention of leaving my day time job or anything like that.

How would one reconcile this with a wish of doing more professional work? My friends are not crowded with photographers who would say: "oh yeah, stop by the magazine studio and work for a couple of hours for fun".

Anyone with similar experiences to share?

Thx

I work for a photography studio full time.  My goal is be able to support myself off my own work within 5 years.  Until then, I'll do as many side jobs as I can to make my business grow.  Some people have been doing professional photography for more than 10 years and still haven't got anywhere.
