"You're dreamy." - Angie (not, alas, to me.)

"Okay, now kiss her." - Boyd (to my models. But I forgive him.)

"Why are you giving me all that money? That's too much." - a model who shall remain nameless. Ha!

"I got a job at an adult toy store. Now we can do some serious hardcore!" - another model who shall remain nameless.

"Oh. My. God. Light-up bondage gear. I am in love." - yet another nameless model.

All real quotes. I swear.

Model "I'm Wendy, are you Bill?"

ME: "yes, but your not Wendy."

Model "Of course I am, I just got back from getting my aim test"

ME: "Uh I think I have you confused with another model, I am not prepared to shoot hard core"

Model: "That's ok, you don't need to be nervous"

Me: "I don't think you get it"

Model: "Don't worry you wont be getting it either"

In respect to dealing with clients, my early photography mentor taught me this concept..."Good...Fast...Cheap....pick any two."  Meaning, (A). if you want it good and fast, it won't be cheap. (B). if you want it good and cheap, it won't be fast. and (C). if you want it fast and cheap, it won't be good.  Still applies today.

The now departed Canadian photographer Fred Schiffer was approached by a famous writer who said to Fred, "Your photographs are very good. You must have a good camera." Fred retorted, "Your books are excellent you must have a very good typewriter."

American potographer Edward Steichen was very sick and in bed (he died a few days later) when his housekeeper decided she better ask him for some advice before he died. "Mr. Steichen," she asked, "What would you recommend my son do? He wants to be a photographer." Steichen was barely able to raise his head from the pillow and he uttered, "Don't send him to school!"

When I asked Elliott Erwitt what he thought of famous Canadian Karsh he answered, "He makes all his subjects look greasy." Of Anne Leibovitz he said, "She is very professional. Annie Leibovitz is a very professional photographer."

This is going to sound crass - but, I swear it's not.  I was talking to a new model (to me at least) and setting up the protocol for a shoot.

The quote was - "a robe? why would I need that?"  When discussing outdoor nudes and camera/pose changes/setup.

It made it so easy to know ahead of time, that the model was unconcerned about working nude and was relaxed about working with me.

It was one less thing to fret about. - VintageV

After several frames and still not getting the look I wanted, trying to get a young model to truely understand what I mean by 'the look of surprise', I said, "Ok, remember when you saw your first large penis?", she said, "Oh yea, now I get it."

Richard Nilsen said this of Barry Goldwater in the Arizona Republic: Through much of his life, Barry Goldwater was an avid amateur photographer. It was a hobby he took seriously and he managed, before his death, to leave behind more than 15,000 photographs, given to three different Arizona institutions.

It was a legacy he once called his ''last will and testament to my love for my native state.''

Most of those pictures were of Arizona and its people, and a large portion of them were of the state's native people, for whom Goldwater felt a special affection. advertisement

''I photographed every tribe, and they're damn good people,'' he once said, in his typically salty style. ''I like them.''

During his lifetime, he managed to mix political life with his hobbies, including photography, aviation and ham radio. His photographs were shown in more than 250 exhibits in the United States and Europe and graced the pages of Arizona Highways magazine nearly 200 times, beginning in 1939.

The Royal Photographic Society of London even elected him to membership.

"Perfect weather! Cool enough to make my nipples are hard, but no goosebumps."

"You're a genius!"  (Look, I didn't believe her, either, but the question was favorite quotes, right? And that one made me feel good.)

"Sure, no problem."
