Fantastic! I love the shots by Terry Breedlove. Terry what was the exposure info in the 1st shot? I will upload one soon. But it is not an exceptional example of this great long exposure effect.

I have most long exposure fun with dancers...

...with strobes...
https://www.briandiazphotography.com/mm/mm55166-2.jpg

...or without.

https://www.briandiazphotography.com/mm/mm55166-1.jpg

But sometimes all you need is low light and a beautiful model...

https://www.briandiazphotography.com/mm/mm55166-3.jpg

And since this is more about sharing photos and discussion long exposure, I'm moving it out of Critique.  That place is weird.  smile

I used to do long exposures for some of my dance photographs:

Yes, I do need to rescan them.

Wow, all these time-warpy images have broken down the barriers of MM space time..

At least that's my guess as to why this thread keeps ping-ponging between general and critique?

I started this thead while my brain was fried after a 8 hour shoot in the sun, I made a mistake but it was said to be relocated to "General Mayhem" because it didn't fit critique... so b4 I could notify a mod one wrote to me...its all up there somewhere....

Yes, I do need to rescan them.

What were you camera settings for the top two images? I am shooting a dance performance this weekend. I have been able to achieve something similar with 1/20 of a second, but I am guess this is more like a one second exposure.

It was more complicated than that.  Here's the setup.

>>>  I had access to a small theater.  The back curtain was black velvet, and the stage itself was black.

>>>  I used the back row of stage lights to light the dancers from behind.

>>>  There were basically no other lights.

>>>  I marked the limits of the dancer's boundries so that they stayed inside the image frame.  Then they just moved.

>>>  Exposures were long -- up to 90 seconds.  (I calculated exposure as if the shutter speed was only 1/4 second, and I had the dancers not stay in any one spot for very long.

>>>  In some of these series, I fired off the strobes to add an additional element to the images.

>>>  In some of these images, I asked the model to freeze, using her muscle control to burn in an image of her figure.

>>>  In some of these images, I gave the models flashlights to hold in their hands.  Hint:  give them two matched flashlights, one for each hand -- otherwise they get off-balanced.  (See the streaks in the second picture?  That's the flashlights).

>>>  In general, these images required much darkroom skill.
