I’m new here and need advice!

I email a few local models with good looking ports and had a couple respond. I set a time a date with one of them: MAÑANA (Tomorrow) at 6am (Her perfect hour so she can go to work afterwards). She just called and said that she was reading a forum I had started the other day and read a post from a Photographer (A Dip! Good photographer, but a DIP! IMO) who slammed my work. She called and CANCELLED!!! She said that it seems I have no experience and to call her next year!!! I’m not a mean person but I don’t think I’ll ever call her again unless she PUTS OUT some $$$!

Thanks A.H of TX!

Even on my worst day in Mexico I ever had that happen.

Oh, does that happen around here allot? If it does I will not post any more to avoid any negative influences!

It happens is all I can say. Keep shooting and try not to be vengeful at all.

Your energy will be much better spent on building your portfolio and building bridges through open lines of communication.

Shoot right and fear not

Craig is right...cancellations seem to be the norm sometimes. I would rather hear "my dog ate my homework" than the rudeness you had to deal with.

Tomorrow is another day...

Sounds like some he said/she said nonsense.

If she was willing to cancel

a) over something said by one person
b) on an internet forum no less
c) because of your experience as opposed to your actual work (which I haven't actually looked at, bytheway)

...well, you might be better off not having shot with her.

To be fair, many models around here will cancel without so much as calling...

Just had a look at your port and it looks respectable enough to me!
Consider it a blessing that she pulled out before you got up early and set up studio!
She probably wouldn't of turned up any way.

Presumably she saw your pics before agreeing to the shoot.
Any desent model would have supported you and gone ahead with the shoot!

I'm totally against slagging other togs and mods off unless they've ripped someone off (tog) or didnt show (mod.)

Shoot on! (and dont call her back!)

Blessings

The guy sounds like a real asshole.....it sucks bad, but believe me, once the RIGHT models see the angle he's taking, they'll realize what a dick head he really is if he has to employ those tactics.....Craig;s advice is exactly right.....keep doing what you're doing, and this guy will hang himself by his own stupidity, an intelligent model would not be that easily swayed, and would recognize his poor approach to make himself look better by belittling himself. Cancellations suck, but at least she did call....her loss, your savings on possible wasted time.

Hmm, yeah, if what she saw in your port was good enough to entice her to want to work with you, it's pretty darn stupid for her to NOW change her mind because of what some unrelated 3rd party had to say...

On the other hand, maybe it was just a convenient excuse for her to back out.  Either way, like the others said, you probably didn't want to work with her anyway.

And yep, she CALLED... which puts her one step ahead of SOOO many other dingbats I've dealt with online....

lol

Someone who is so clueless that they cannot ascertain for themselves if X's work is worthwhile enough for them to work with X, but instead refers to someone else's opinion on the topic, is no one I'd be interested in working with. Particularly after having set up a time to meet.

I prefer to work with models that actually think for themselves.

How very silly, at least she called.
Don't let it phase you keep shooting.
as a model I get many jobs from the forums,
as a photographer as well I have made some great connections on these forums.
The only reason I would not shoot with someone for what they said is if they were super stupid and said they hurt people, broke things, or some such....

If she wants to limit her possibilities, that's her problem.  Keep on shooting.  There are more models out there that are professional and will keep to a committment once it is made than not (despite what happened to me 2 weekends ago...)
