Pretty much, what do you want your atavar to say about you? whether you change it daily, weekly, monthly, or keep it the same, do you think about how it affects your communication with other people on the forums/ etc.

I started to use my avatar to show myself - so people have at least an idea of who they dealing with and what kind of person they talk to.
But recently I recognize it is some instrument to push the views of your port too. If you load up a good picture you get more recognition instead using one of this old guy...

Right now I'm using mine for straight-up self promotion.

It's usually more representative of the model work I have here. In general I think it's a good idea for the avatar to be a simple image that doesn't reduce to a hot mess of a thumbnail. It should be compelling enough to draw people into your portfolio.

I change mine randomly. Merely changing it doesn't "bump" you into view the way changing your main image on OMP does. Promoting your work is actually more difficult here than it is on OMP. Networking is more important here, so I think your avatar should be something that reflects you as you leave messages and post in forums. To that end a self portrait as avatar isn't a bad idea.

(that was a tad random and disconnected. i need more coffee)

My atavar says " Cool Man" eyes closed...jazzman....I rather you see into my soul that just full frontal with no expression. Photographers should show theirselves instead of their work as atavars. It's knowing the artist that what we seek to know....ok hommie needs more coffee...

I chose mine just to be different.  The majority of my work is commercial so I might as well show it.  Besides, it will prepare anyone coming into the studio.  You can imagine the reaction when they walk in the stuio and there are guns and knives everywhere.

I change mine depending on my mood.  I currently have my headless body shot where I'm covering my "naughty bits".  Maybe I was feeling shy when I put that one up wink

I also use it to show my versatility.  I like to use nice high-contrast images that will get someone's attention enough for them to say..."Wow!  I'd like to see what else she can do."

I wonder about the beautifully lit (does it make them look like run in the mill?) tied up model avatars. Here in MM I got more people to look at my port by posting an avatar of a young Chaw pup. People here are glazed over so you have to hit them with something off the wall.

Most of the time I've got some photo of myself that I've messed around with. Kind of shows that I enjoy creating art.

Occassionally you'll see an image I feel like flaunting. At the moment I've got a photo of a model that I love the results obtained.  Great model too Gabrielle - MM721.

my avatar has gotten 100 hits, which is more than anything else in the port, so by mm standards I kinda suck...
I guess it says I am the meat puppet of the masses and will use an avatar that people like

my face is my brand. Therefore, brand recognition. People tell me to change it all the time, but I'm not doing it.

Something along the lines of "I *must* work with her"

When I first started posting and reading the forums, I related the avatar to someone's face. smile

You equivicate,  prevaricate, and palter too much.

Photographers all know what the models look like. Now, maybe, they too would like to know what the person behind the camera looks like...
Models should rotate images frequently thus showing that they are still active!
