How long does it take a new profile to be reviewed?

It depends on how much information you provide when you sign up originally. As long as your profile has been filled out completely and you have appropriate photos uploaded (please see "What does my profile need to be approved?" for more info), it ranges from a few days to a few weeks, depending on how full the waiting queue is. Once your profile has been reviewed, the server will send you a notification (if you are an AOL user or have spam filters in place, please make sure modelmayhem.com is in your approved sender whitelist). Even if your profile is denied for some reason, you will have unlimited opportunities to make adjustments to it for re-review.

What does my profile need to be approved?

Your "About Me" (Bio & Credits) section has to be completely filled out with things such as what you hope to get out of this site, what you're looking to do in the industry, any upcoming projects, longterm goals, types of work you are or aren't willing to do (TFP, paid assignments only, adult/erotica/nudity, travel out of state, etc). Without such basic information, you're likely to be contacted by many people you may not want to work with. Help keep unwanted contact to a minimum by answering these common questions preemptively within your profile text.

We're not looking for your life story. Keep in mind that this is a modelling site-- your information should pertain to modelling or the related field you signed up for. You can skip the extraneous details about your family, your hobbies, your pet iguana, etc. We're only looking for relevant details. Too much unrelated personal information makes your profile sound like a personal ad and increases its chances of being rejected.

You must also have at least four (4) different, separate photos uploaded. For photographers, these must be photos of human models. Photos of cars, animals, landscapes (etc) are considered out of place on Model Mayhem and will fare better on sites that focus on broader, general photography instead. Makeup artists, hair stylists, and wardrobe stylists must have photos specifically of their work. Unrelated personal snapshots are considered inappropriate.

(If you see an incomplete profile somewhere, please contact a moderator.)

Why was my profile rejected?

Currently, we are only accepting members who fall into one of the following five categories: model, photographer, makeup artist, hair stylist or wardrobe stylist. Both your photos and "About Me" (Bio & Credits) section must reflect a sincere desire to pursue work in one of these five areas. If your photos or information don't match the area you designated, or remain incomplete for more than a few days, your profile will be rejected.

We are not currently accepting web designers, managers/agents/referral services, modeling teams, contests or clothing companies as members.

Pornographic ("adult" or "X-rated") images are not allowed on this site, nor are links to hardcore porn sites. We certainly have nothing against those who chose to do adult work, but have decided not to allow this site to be used to network in that industry.

Profiles that violate copyrights are unacceptable. If you are found uploading photos that you do not hold the copyright to (or do not have explicit written permission from the copyright holder for), your profile will be immediately terminated.

And this should be self-evident, but...

If you are a photographer, do not upload photos that you did not take personally yourself. If you are a model, do not upload photos that you do not appear in. If you are a makeup artist, hair stylist or wardrobe stylist, do not upload photos in which you did not do the makeup, hair or wardrobe styling.

Why can't I sign up with the right birthdate?

Model Mayhem requires members to be at least 16 years of age. If you can't sign up with your birthdate, it's because we're not accepting members your age.

I'm already a member, but now my profile is denied. Why?

You were either violating one of the above criteria (incomplete profile, inadequate photos, or younger than 16) or you were verbally abusive/threatening to other members. You can also be banned from the site for spamming through the message system, tags, announcements, comments or forums.

How do I contact a moderator if I need help?

Please send all comments, complaints, requests (etc) to our team of moderators using the "Contact-A-Mod" form. Do not send private messages to moderators individually instead. Your issue will be addressed much quicker (and with much less chance of irritation) if you contact everyone at once through the C-A-M form.

Why don't the https://modelmayhem.com/shortname URLs work anymore?

At some point, the internal auto redirection stopped working. Tyler has been notified and we hope he is looking into it. In the meantime, please use the following type of link instead ("www" is optional):

https://www.modelmayhem.com/member.php?id=YOUR_ID_HERE

Help! I keep getting "you must be logged in" errors when I try to do anything!

Model Mayhem saves a cookie to your harddrive to assist with things like keeping you logged in, setting your ID # on photo uploads, new private messages, etc. When your cookie becomes corrupt (which could happen if substantial changes are made to the website code, causing your local cookie to no longer match up with the newer ones that the site is handing out), you will experience problems with ANY OR ALL of the following: logging in, uploading photos, sending messages, leaving tags, posting to the shoutbox or forums (etc).

The only way to fix this is to COMPLETELY delete your browser's cache and cookies. New cookies will be made when they see they are no longer on your harddrive. One of these links may help with that:

IE & AOL | Firefox | More

We recommend the following steps:

Close all browser windows but one.
In that window, go to something non-MM related like Google.com.
Run whatever steps are linked above to delete cache/cookies.
Close your browser completely.
Reopen it and go to Model Mayhem.
Re-log in fresh.
If that doesn't work, and you do not use Firefox, you may want to consider it. It can be downloaded for free here. It has solved the problem for quite a few members who have had problems clearing their other browser's cache and cookies.

How do I change my name?

You can't actually change it yourself, but a moderator can do it for you. A lot of people sign up without realizing that their email address is their login name and the username they chose is actually just the name that will identify them throughout the site. Please use the "Contact-A-Mod" form to submit a name change request.

How do I change my password?

Go to My stuff, click on the Settings tab in the left-hand column and you should see a link to change your password.

I want off this site! How do I make that happen?

The first step is to delete all of your photos and profile text. When you have finished, please use the "Contact-A-Mod" form to submit a removal request.

How come "send mail" and "add friend" buttons don't show up on my page like they do on everyone else's?

Your page actually does have these. They just don't show up for you because you can't perform those actions on yourself.

Can I post links, images, HTML, (etc) on my page?

You may not use HTML, but you can format text and display images using limited BBCode.

and produce bold text.
and produce italicized text.
and produce underlined text.
https://YOUR_URL_HERE displays an image.

You cannot make text links on your profile page, but you can make them in forum posts.

What is a "tag"?

A "tag" is basically just a comment left on someone's profile page. Use these to leave feedback on a person, to say "omghi2u", whatever you feel like. Except for spam. Spam people with tags and you will be kicked off the site.

I'm a makeup artist, so why does it say "Stylist" underneath my avatar?

At some point, there will be distinct categories again, but for now anyone who does anything makeup/hair/wardrobe related is a "stylist".

How come some people have more photos than me?

The first 100 people that joined this site were rewarded with 100 photo slots for being the pioneers of Model Mayhem. (Moderators also have 100 photo slots.) The following 100 members received 80 photos slots. Then 60. Then 40. And now we're staying at 20.

How do I get more photo slots?

You can't at the moment. We will probably offer a feature where you can pay for more pic slots (server space) in the near future.

Why was my photo marked "18+"?

The image contained nudity, depictions of violence or overtly sexual material. In other words, it wasn't "G-rated" enough. Adult members can still view the 18+ images when they are logged in. However, the images cannot be viewed by non-members or used as avatars. Besides preventing underaged users from viewing possibly inappropriate material, this cuts down on non-members cruising the site for nekkid chicks and saves on bandwidth.

What is an "avatar"?

Your avatar is the thumbnail version of the photo you choose to represent your profile. It will be shown attached to your forum posts, shoutbox posts, private messages, in search listings, and in various other places on the website. You can select an avatar by going to My Stuff > Manage Photos and clicking the "set as avatar" button next to the one you would like to use.

How do I empty my trash?

This feature has not been added to the site yet. Just ignore your deleted items for now.

What is a GWC?

GWC is an acronym for "Guy With Camera." It's a derogatory term for amateur photographer that's taken the interweb by storm. It usually implies that said guy is only interested in photography to get hot ladies to get nekkid for him.

What is the equivalent term for models?

There isn't one, but every couple of weeks, someone tries to invent one. So far, we've had CWS (Chick With Snapshots), CWA (Chick With Aspirations) and a few others, but none of them seem to stick.

What does TFP (or TFCD) mean?

TFP stands for time in exchange for prints ("Time For Prints") and TFCD is time in exchange for a CD of images. It is an arrangement in which everyone contributes their time and skills and everyone gets images, but no cash payment is made. Details of TFP type shoots (usage rights, number of images produced and given to the model, etc) vary according to the individual deals people make amongst themselves. The term TFP is rarely used in the real world modeling industry, but there is a preferred term ("test") which functions in the same capacity. It's all a bunch of silly semantics.

Have a question you don't see the answer to here? Please use the "Contact-A-Mod" form to submit it.

You might want to use the actual term for it though... its called TESTING in the real, non-internet world.  Agencies dont know what TFP means.

Time for Pancakes. You get naked, sign a model release that allows me to do all manner of unkind editing tricks and sell the pics to www.reallyraunchyphotos.com, and I will supply the pancakes - with the syrup of your choice.

Or  .... see all the other answers  ... they are probably better than mine.

Perhaps a good question should be TFPs or TFCDs? Which are prefered? Think I'll start that one.
