im trying to learn more tricks to brighten up my photos. what are some good ways to digital mimic catch light (eye light). when i do add it its usually for a studio shot, but id like to apply it to more of my photos to help brighten up the eyes... my technique is basic: layer, paint white, g.blur and opacity.

are there better ways? any advise?

curves usually does the trick...

I typically open a new adjustment curve and set the layer mode to screen. Raise the curve until you get the catchlight where you want it.

Then, I invert the layer, so it acts as a mask, and then use my paint brush on a low opacity to brighten just the catchlight.
