Just heard it on the news.  A photographer (Ya right!) was meeting girls off his OMP  account.  Took photos of underage girls in the nude, got them drunk and.... now charge with sexual assualt! One of his over age models was interviewed and said " He acted weird during the shoot and kept insisting to be with her in a few shots of her nude!"

Models, another excample of being careful and reporting photographers who request you do strange things.

I just caught the story on the television news (Global).

They made a big deal that he met the models on OMP and they gave his name and OMP number, 6107.

http://member.onemodelplace.com/member.cfm?P_ID=6107

Looked like they have video of someone from OMP talking to them on the phone.  They left an impression that the legitimacy of OMP and sites like it may be doubtful.

They featured a 14 year old female model who looks 20, shooting with a Toronto photographer who said the PC things, and he warned about GWCs. Then they had the owner of Sutherland's on, and it was implied models should only work through an agency.

As a news story it rates a 10. As for accuracy, maybe a 6.

i hate when people like this make the rest of the industry look bad .. i know of many young models and i advice them to have everything in writing and alway alway bring a excort that is an adult not some one of their age cus an adult like a parent or guardian can make a decision that the model is not experienced enough to make... these idiots work their garabage under the banner of a photographer are dispicable and should be jailed .. this is the reason many photographers that shoot fine art images are getting a bad rap cus of this garabage ... 2 things i hate people that degrade and take advantage women and children.

You can't really tell if he is a manager or not.  OMP allows managers to manage talent, photographers to manage talent or photographers to simply provide a portfolio for the models they shoot.  As OMP says, they are not the model's manager they are merely managing their profile for them to showcase their work.  It is a problem because many of the shooters who give models profiles do it as sort of a for of TFOMPP (Time for OMP Profile).

So he may well be a manager or merely a pervert.  Either way, not kewl.

Another sad thing is some of his work showed a little potential.

EDIT: I expect stories like this about guys who have snapshot crap, but some of his stuff is ok.

funny thing is the images they use are of one of the 24 year old models on his OMP profile, making it look like "look at the naughty pics this man took of this underage girl"

I just noticed that Aida, the model who made the following statement :

“He wanted to go behind me like he's clothed and I'm nude and then he's like pulling my hair and I found that kind of weird,â€? remembers Aida Alves. “Like he never tried anything with me, but just the fact that -- I don't know, I just found it kind of creepy.â€?

Left him an acknowledgement on his OMP profile. That's comforting. I'm not placing any blame on this model, but it makes you question references.

I noticed that too. I guess showing a 16 year olds boobies on the evening news is a little questionable. smile

The thing about acknowledgements on there is they either mean, I want to work with this photographer, or,,,,,you do nice work
They have no place to leave an actual recommendation on the photographers OMP.

Yea, but even if the girl in the images WAS under 18, proving them to be illegal obscenity would be the issue, they dont look all that naughty.

No she left him a "recommendation" on his portfolio, which leads you to believe this person is credible. She also acknowledged him on her profile as someone she has worked with. It makes you question whether she would have mentioned this had he not been caught and made public the allegations.

The Global TV news follow up today showed the accused leaving court after being released on bail. A reporter asked him if he would continue to run his agency. No mention of any bail conditions.

They showed OMP again, as the place he found models. I would hazard a guess that more than one young model's OMP account has been cancelled today.

They repeated the accusations that two underage models were photographed in sexual poses and one claimed she was given alcohol.

The accused's lawyer was on camera, and mentioned that in Canada we have a presumption of innocence.

OMP was also on the news about a month ago,

This women in her 40,  got a e-mail from New Linecinema I think it was. Saying she would be prefect for this role, so she went to NYC had someone from her hotel go to the casting with her, when she got there it was a insurance place.

She later on found out that they get these girls and send them out of the US and use then as sex slaves.  She asked the older women why younger girls and why did you call me Im 40, she told her someone wanted you, and had a price for you.

She asked the lady why she does this and she said, its a job, I get paid well...

Kinda scary

Bingo!  Typical of all these threads.  The mere suggestion that someone is involved in child porn instantly brings out the torch-wielding lynch mob mentality.  That's why child protection is such a popular theme with legislators, law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges.  How can anyone be opposed to protecting children?  And no one is going to lose any sleep over the lives destroyed by false accusations.  They were probably guilty anyway.

i was the girl on the citytv interview about him, a few of u recognized me..
i am so confused with all this bullshit because since the day i met Karim, he has been the nicest man and has never tried anything on me. never talked to me creepy never touched me never even slightly made a pass at me!
i dont know why me and my best friend who took pictures with him r the only girls that have nothing but nice things to say about him but everyone else  is saying he's done these weird creepy things.. i just dont get it. i cant believe the accusations against him at all, theres just no way in hell i could even picture him doing these things. i dont know maybe he really liked me and my best friend as friends and didnt want to hurt us i just dont get why we'd be the only ones hes never tried anything funky with.

Ya gotta wonder how many of the under 18 models on here are FBI plants (especially now that the whole world thinks that MM is a haven for child pornographers, pedophiles, and all around general purpose perverts).

I tried to view the profile but its obviouslly been pulled. The title of Photographer is tossed around way too easily when someone has a camera in their hands. Oh....I just hope the government doesnt develop a license to test people for tongue They done that to everything else thus far.

Models are not stupid, at least none of those I have met and worked with or those I wish to work with in the future. Those who read or watch the news story of this will learn to be more careful with whom they meet and shoot with. Always ask for references smile

Just my opinion

Please don't take this as critical but..... why would you pose topless for photos if you diddn't want anyone, even the photographer, to have them? It must be wierd dealing with the drama I'm sure you've been dealt. I'm glad to hear you weren't assaulted.

Hmmm...  I think the title of photographer is fiting for someone who has a camera in their hands.

I'm not referring to what you said, but personally I get tired of hearing how sleazy every photographer is who doesn't have a store front, degree, and apprenticeship history with some high end New York fashion shooter.  I don't think that being an amateur necessarily makes you anymore likely to be interested in molesting young women.  The one thing that makes these events newsworthy is that they aren't that common (relative to the number of photographers and models out there).

And I agree that licensing is not the answer.  Licensing is rarely the answer to anything unless it's to benefit the incumbents at the expense of newcomers to the market.

R. Olson (RO) wrote:

I'm with you on that one.  I don't think these forums give models enough credit for being able to think for themselves.

i did want to pose topless, i didnt mind because i felt comfortable with him, the only reason i said i dont want him to have those pics now is because of what hes been accused of, otherwise it wouldnt make a difference to me. and the stupid citytv didnt put the good things i said on tv.. they edited the whole interview and made it seem so more dramatic and bad than they should have.
