Hi everyone!
Im 29 years old and trying to get back into the industry. Apparently I have passed my "prime" for doing anything "lucrative". I have some tattoos but they can all be covered up-and I dont exactly have a "models" body type anymore. Im 5'8" and weight 130lbs.

It seems like the only people that are interested in using me for anything are porn related sites...is this what happens when you get past 22?!

If anyone has any leads on where I might be able to gain some exposure, please let me know-It would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great day!!

Hi KitN,

There is no age limit that I am aware of.  With the baby boomers aging, "older" models (30+) are going to be in demand- for commercial work.  You are in a sort of "pre-soccer Mom" age range- too old to be modeling prom dresses and too young to model Kraft mac & cheese.  smile

I recommend that you check out some local agencies and diversify your port.

I think that the porn guys spam most models on this site in hopes of getting any kind of response.

The best of luck to you!

Age doens't limit one in commercial work like the previous poster said...but...really look at your images compared to others...you're aiming for some sort of alternative look which is a tiny niche market where there is little or no "real" work.....add to that your age which shrinks it down further and there is a truly tiny market your aiming at.....

I don't know that the age is terribly relevant, in your case. Your port begs for more than it's been fed.

You have a look with biting potential...the cultivation is just lacking.
1 thorough shoot x (1 good MUA + 1 good photographer that has experience with dark-themed photography) = a sizable leap in the quality of your work.

This is true, as well. Particularly if the reference to "porn related sites" would include a model's nude photography paysite (i.e. Kumi, Miss Conduct).

Not sure what kinda porn we talkin- cuz lots of people think what I shoot is porn.

Anyways- commercial work aint found online- you wont see JC Penney's coming to MM to cast for their next ad.

This site, therefore, and any internet modeling site will have a large focus on glam modeling and artists modeling (or amateur TFP modeling) and any kinda modeling which you dont need an agent to get.

The reason is that market demands change, and there is no way of knowing ahead of time who the print buyer will be. My 1961 images are still selling. If I had to go back and contact the model, how would I find her.
I pay the same hourly rate naked or dressed.

I cant and wont try to speak for others here ... but I actually prefer to shoot with models who are "older" My preferences are for models in their 40's and 50's. I will shoot those younger.. (mid to late 30's), and I have shot models between 20 and 30.

Look at the TV ads, the newspapers and magazines... The models who are doing alot of the current ads are older... (I am not talking about the fashion industry, or the supermodel industry). Dove has started using older, average women for their products. Other companies are starting to fall or climb onto that wagon as well. The only thing I think you would be well served by doing at this point, is to get some additional images in your portfolio, showing a variety of looks and abilities.

You are definately not out of the game in my opinion based on your age.

I have worked with models in their 20s, 30s, 40s and at least two who are in their 50s.    There is no age limit for models, just in the minds of photographers who arbitrarily wish to limit the number of quality people they work with.

There are jobs out there.  smile

PS.  If you are ever in the DC area... let me know.  I'll work with you!

Dead is one fraction of a second to0 old! Anything else is the beauty of woman!

Women are to be celebrated as the gift given to men to adore, worship, and admire. Thus "Photography!" (lol) Or at least photography of the female form as we as men see it as art when depicted in the proper light and pose. smile

Throw porn out of the picture! Throw your boundaries out as a man and tell me you do not find a certain woman sexy?

Ok now wait till she is the only one left on earth! Is she now sexy?  Wait a few weeks or months! (lo)

It’s all in how we see her or in our perception!

Or did I get that all wrong (LOL)

What is wrong with adjusting rates according usage and rights?

Or did you misread that as some sort of demand?

WOW...I like that you believe there is no age limit for models...
I believe there are a lot of photographers/agencies out there that limit the minds of those who want to pursue modeling!
I do feel that my age, size and "look" limit me to certain types of modeling....but, isn't everyone "typed" somehow?

Whenever you start to sag in places that cannot be corrected!!
It's time to take a leave of absence...I mean get out the game!!

I compare models to rappers, because you rarely see any rappers that are over 40+ still rapping, except for Will Smith, Jay-Z and The Beastie Boys!!

Ignore this.
You may have to reinvent yourself but you don't need to leave the game.

Easily ignored...I don't think I look so bad that I should give up yet...I know I'm never going to be some fancy "super-model".  But hey, I do this because I enjoy it!  I'm not going to let one (or even a few) photographer(s) discourage me when I have others who are willing to work with me.  I AM a model, when I am modeling.

For sure. I did a lingerie pillowfight shoot at a hotel with 8 models, I was the oldest(they were 19 and up) and happened to be in better shape than most of them and even looked younger than most and I am 31 and have had 3 kids.My oldest son is 11 years old.
So it really depends on how you age too.

No age is "too old".

That's a state of mind-not business.

I'm doing a lifestyle shoot on sunday for a 44 year old woman with a figure to make most 20 year olds jealous.

There is no such thing as too old these days!

It doesn't look like a demand to me. However, It does look like it could be a demand. I would expect a better reception if it were written "Rates for paid shoots vary with subject and use. I may reduce or waive my rates if licensing rights are to be shared."

There's lots of 40 +/- rappers out there ....  hahaha.

And I don't think age matters at all when it comes to modelling ... you can be 80 and market yourself to someone if you're determined.

I don't know how bad age matters to clients. Really, at the agency I got signed to, there's this girl who is 16 and another who is 24, and me who is 22, and we all look the same age. So who should care if the model is 22 or 24, if she looks like her 16 years old colleague? Well, I don't know, but for some reasons my agency writes on their website the age of their models, and they said that I was 18!

I think the issue may be your look, not your age. I know plenty of models in their late 20's, early30's that shoot a lot. I am included in that age bracket. You have a goth look and that is a very small market. It would help to mix your portfolio up. Take some fashion, lingerie, swimsuit, and casual shots. Do different make-up for each shoot. You have to have a look that can be versatile.
