How old is too old...
Ok so I am 23 years ols and have always wated to model. I dont know how serious I would take it but the more profiles I look at the more fun it looks! It is too late for me? Im not the skinniest girl in the world but Im working on it (for me not for modeling) What do you all think? May 01 06 07:34 pm Link it depends on the market you're after... but my short answer would be to go for it... good luck... May 01 06 07:41 pm Link If you want to do mainstream high fashion, anything over 20 is probably "too old". Beyond that, it's more about what you look like. I know skinny little LA girls in their early 20s with drug habits who look like leathery, pumpkin-skinned hags, and I also know at least one hot Asian fetish model in her mid-30s who still gets flown around the world to pose and do stage performances. And then there are the 40-somethings who, after their kids are out of the house, spend a ton of free time working out all the time and have tighter bodies than I did as a varsity soccer playing teen. It all depends. May 01 06 07:42 pm Link I say go for it! Whats the worst that could happen? Dont sell your house and bank on it... but give it a decent shot and see what happens. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, then hang it up. May 01 06 07:45 pm Link It depends on what type of modeling your interested in doing...you could be too old yep... May 01 06 07:45 pm Link Everybody live their lives for few different reasons. Love, Money, Fame, Success, God, Helping others, Science, Art, Honor, Greed etc. Creating art in any form is a positive thing...if you really like the idea of the modeling, give it a shot have fun with it create some nice image...if the "typical success" followed it, then great! Othrwise what is there to lose except some time and effort to make beautiful (hopefully) works? Best of luck. Wolf May 01 06 07:57 pm Link Base-Face wrote: Attitude is everything !!!!!!!!! But i still want to be a model once time in my life. I know i won't me too serious becoz of my age. But as long as I have fun and enjoy the process. It's already enough. For sure if i got some pay assisment, that's should be great. Who know...... right! May 01 06 08:08 pm Link Go for it. The worst that could happen is that you won't succeed at it but you will have lost nothing and probably gained some gret experiences. At least many years from now you won't have to wonder "what if..." Good luck. May 01 06 08:12 pm Link Josie Nutter wrote: Well said... May 02 06 12:57 pm Link I say don't give up on it. I'm not the "cookie cutter" model type, but I do it for the love of getting the shot. I just don't quite my day job! There are all kinds of models out there, just find your niche and go for it. May 02 06 01:35 pm Link No rules. Models help businesses sell stuff. They help artists complete a vision. They help storytellers tell a tale. I think people of any age and look can represent an idea of what someone wants to convey. Your persistence to network and find customers who need your look, and your ability to present yourself are key. May 02 06 01:43 pm Link Commercial models come in all looks and ages, If you're dead you may be too old, But other than that... Pick up a newspaper, the department store sales ads, the stuff you get in your mailbox...... There is a ton of ad work shot with the guy/girl next door models, and there is no age limit on that work. May 02 06 01:46 pm Link As long as you still look good. You are only as old as you look..... May 02 06 01:48 pm Link The age thing for models brings up the fact that the fashion industry still has not come to grips with that real world of who BUYS clothing. Tis not all the under 20, very thin women, NOPE, tis the NORMAL size women of America!!! So if you want to get into modeling, there is room for you provided you seek out the agencies who have clue about who is actually buying clothing. May not be the same agencies supporting America's Next Top Model, but some one is manufacturing Normal size clothing for women and those same manufacturers need advertising. GO for IT!!! Patrick May 02 06 01:54 pm Link Split Images Studio wrote: Companies like Chico's, JC Penney, Sears, and Spiegel use older models. When most people think of "fashion models" they think of the NY designer runway shows. The use of young skinny models to show off new high-fashion clothing concepts probably won't change. But that is just a small part of the industry. Once those designs get slated for specific retailers, then market appropriate models are used for catalogs, print ads, and commercials. Also keep in mind that the vast majority of clothing sold via on-figure photographs never appears on pencil thin designer runway models. It is common practice in the apparel industry for manufacturers to produce first samples in size medium for presentation to buyers before the other sizes are made. I know of many smaller apparel manufacturers who will find models to fit their medium size pre-production samples for wholesale colateral. May 02 06 02:31 pm Link If you do a quick search under the "browse" section, you'll see that there are quite a few models who are older than you (myself included!) Although some of us model as a hobby, there are others who do this as a career...(and I'm not necessarily referring to fashion). Outside of fashion, I think there's a niche to be found for everyone...but in most cases, you'll have to pursue it aggressively. Nothing comes easy, as they say, but there's always a chance! May 02 06 02:37 pm Link From http://www.newmodels.com/race.html "Prime time" [for commercial print models] is the late 20s and 30s for women, 30s and 40s for men, and in fact the average age asked for is 37 (35 for women, 39 for men). Read the whole article, but this sentence says a lot. May 02 06 02:41 pm Link No rejection can compare to the pain of regret. There are models of all ages, types and looks. Remember, not everyone looks like they do in high fashion ads. If it is something you want to pursue, never question that. May 02 06 02:42 pm Link Hello I definitely would pursue modeling if it is truly what you would like to do. I, myself, am 42, have a family, and work a full-time job. It's a continuous battle, but I love every moment. I have always lived by two beliefs. One is that you will never know until you try it. The second one is that you only live once. I don't want to look back upon my life and have regrets because I didn't pursue a dream. But please be careful as you take on this career. I, myself, have been "burned" and now have an escort travel with me. I was "trashed" by a few regarding the need of escort not too long ago on this forum. Had I been escorted I would have definitely not been setback as financially as I was. Thank goodness it was only monetary, it could have been a lot worse. Sorry about that tangent. Good luck in your decision and always follow your dreams. Maria C May 02 06 03:08 pm Link |
