Ok, I was browsing through a long long thread earlier today that I can not find now.

This particular model complained about needing to bulk up the lingerie and swimwear part of her portfolio but photographers kept hiring her for nudes.

I looked at her rates. There was only a $20 dollar difference between her lingerie/swimwear rate and her full nude rate.

HelllllllllLO, Mcfly!!

How many models really get paid for swimwear by photgraphers????
isn't that all tropicana and maxim stuff?
I tried to add a few more lingerie shoots to by book but I don't get hired for them as much and I have never been hired for swimwear.

So I go with my own niche.

She got hired to do lingerie and such in the past from what  I gather. But once she started doing nude for a few bucks more she got hired for nothing but nude. Her look and shape changed , so her lingerie and simwear stuff became out dated.

EDIT: I just think it is a little silly to have your fee levels so close together. Especially when it comes to lingerie and nude

I just have a flat hourly rate.  Having graduated pay scales makes me feel too much like an escort.  wink

I think I'd fault the model for not requesting certain shots. I know many of the photographers that I work with offer for me to get things if I want/need them. All I have to do is pipe up and say can we kindly do a few lingerie shots in this sitting, I need to add some variety to my portfolio. Most of them are highly accomidating so long as they also get the shots they're looking for.

Negotiation is everything!

I agree. And in my shoots, no matter if she is paying me or I am  paying her or it is tfp,,if she asks" can we try this" and we have time, I always say yes.

So why is it that she can't simply do TF-CD for swimwear/lingerie to build her portfolio.  If she is getting lots of paid work for nudes, why not find a good photographer and simply negotiate a toally non-nude photo session and do it TF-CD?  Or extend a nude, paying session and ask the photographer if he'd mind shooting some of her clothed.

Most people do not like a complex profile.

Depends on what you want.  And on the same note if you do not like what is offered then ask someone else.

I charge models the same whether I'm shooting them in fashion, swimwear, lingerie or nude. My time is my time, and I value it all the same.

It works both ways.

I've worked with a number of models using the same rate for all. That makes sense to me especially if they have to supply clothes. A few models actually prefer fine art nudes as it costs them less and involves less time to prepare.

I don't charge by "style" so much as usage. Hence, my fashion and nude rates can be the same.

In some cases the rates can be lower. A model might want to experience a type of modeling or look and make a deal just to get it. A model getting nude is not the only thing of value in any negotiation.

As an example I have plenty of models who show up wanting to experience bondage suspension. It is definitely something that not every photographer can do. Quite often their rates drop or suddenly become TFCD to get lifted by someone who wont drop them on their noggin.

My rates aren't very far apart either..  I didn't know that was  unprofessional.  Eek.

Not necessarily unprofessional. There isnt really a pro or non pro way to do your rates, you charge what you want. But if you want less nude work and more other types, charge more than 20 bucks more for nudes than you do for clothed. theyll almost always choose to spend the extra few bucks to get you naked if its pocket change.

Well usually when photographers contact me about shooting, they tell me upfront what kind of shoot they want to do.  So I don't want to be charging too much for nude, if that's what they're interested in doing in the first place, just because it's only $10 more than my clothed rate.

I hire all my models for nude work.  If they want some swimsuit or lingerie stuff they can bring it with them and we will shoot it.  I will not and have no need to hire any model for just lingerie or swinsuit work. bs

I have to agree with the 'requesting other types of shots' during a shoot. I've never had a photographer refuse to do a few extra clothed shots or lingerie, even if hired to only do nudes.

The better question is "what's up with fee levels anyhow?"

Usage,,,,,,,the photographer stands to make more money from nudes than from, say, head shots. So, the models, like sports starts, want their fare share from the get go.
